Head of Legal

Lead GiveWell's legal function and build a scalable team to support a rapidly growing nonprofit grantmaker directing over $400 million annually.
- Build and lead the legal function from the ground up, developing strategy and serving as primary legal decision-maker as GiveWell scales.
- Maintain compliance across nonprofit operations, employment law, data privacy, contracts, grants administration, and international expansion.
- Own all contracting across grants, employment, software, vendors, and other functional areas; modernize legal administration through technology and automation.
- Requires 10+ years legal experience including significant in-house work; prior General Counsel or senior legal leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Requires active state bar membership; expertise in nonprofit law, tax-exempt status, data privacy, contract negotiation, and employment law essential.
