How many work days are in a year?
A standard year has 260 weekdays (52 weeks × 5). Taking out the 11 US federal holidays leaves 249 working days. Some years have one or two more, depending on where weekends fall.
How is PTO accrual calculated?
Divide your yearly PTO by the number of pay periods: 26 for biweekly or 12 for monthly. For example, 15 days a year on a biweekly schedule accrues about 0.58 days per pay period.
Which US federal holidays are excluded?
New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day (11 in total). Observed dates for holidays that fall on a weekend are not shifted.
