Job description
The Role The Development Coordinator owns the day-to-day execution of LCFA's fundraising plan and manages a portfolio of institutional and corporate funders, foundations, and individual donors. You will build and expand relationships with existing supporters, identify and qualify new prospects, write compelling grant proposals and funder presentations, and steward funders from first conversation through gift, implementation, and reporting. You will be the primary hands-on manager of our CRM and pipeline, and you will work closely with our program and science staff so that what we promise funders is what we deliver. This is a role for someone early in their career who is equally comfortable building a spreadsheet, presenting to a corporate partner, and picking up the phone to reconnect with a lapsed donor. You do not need to have spent your career in nonprofits: we welcome candidates coming from sales, account management, business development, marketing, consulting, or client services who want to apply those skills to a mission. You will be expected to learn the science we fund, the patient education and public awareness campaigns we run, well enough to explain why it matters, and to bring structure and discipline to a growing development team. What You Will Do Fundraising strategy and planning Partner with the Development Team to create, manage, and report against the annual development plan, including revenue goals by channel, activity targets, and quarterly milestones. Manage a pipeline of $1 million or more in prospective and renewing funding, tracking every opportunity from identification through close and stewardship. Funder relationship management Serve as the relationship owner for an assigned portfolio of corporate, foundation, and individual funders; proactively develop and deepen these relationships year over year. Lead the full development cycle: discovery meetings, capabilities presentations, tailored proposal design, grant presentations, and post-award kickoff and implementation. Schedule and conduct virtual and in-person meetings with funders and prospects, including occasional travel to conferences and in-person meetings. Grant writing and proposals Research, write, and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, sponsorship decks, and funder reports that are accurate, on time, and persuasive. Translate our programs and scientific outcomes into clear, compelling language for lay audiences. Prospecting and lead generation Identify, research, and qualify new corporations and foundations, aligned with LCFA's mission and programs. Build and maintain a healthy top-of-funnel so the pipeline stays full across all stages. CRM and development operations Own CRM hygiene: log all activity, maintain accurate records, manage moves-management stages, and ensure timely follow-up on every open item. Produce pipeline reports, forecasts, and dashboards for the Development Team and leadership. Use AI and other productivity tools thoughtfully to speed up research, drafting, and reporting while maintaining accuracy and a human voice. Internal collaboration and program handoff Work with program, communications, and operations staff to hand off funded projects cleanly and to ensure sponsor commitments are fulfilled with quality. Gather program outcomes and stories for reporting and stewardship. What You Bring Required 1–3 years of professional business experience in a relationship- or revenue-focused role, such as fundraising, sales, account management, business development, partnerships, marketing, or client services. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and move them toward an outcome, whether a gift, a grant, a sale, or a renewed contract. Comfort presenting to external audiences; grant writing experience is a plus but can be taught. Proficiency with a CRM, spreadsheets, and Google Workspace; comfort adopting AI tools in daily work. Strong persuasive writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust with people at all levels. Highly organized, reliable, and accountable; able to manage many moving pieces independently in a remote environment. Curiosity about science and the ability to learn and explain the basics of lung cancer research and treatment. Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Nonprofit fundraising or development experience, including grant writing or funder presentations HubSpot experience Experience with financial modeling, revenue forecasting, or budgeting Familiarity with a structured sales or development methodology Background in health care, patient advocacy, or medical research fundraising
