Job description

Position Overview We're looking for a creative, motivated, and highly independent Marketing and Communications Manager who loves rolling up their sleeves and getting things done. This is not a traditional management position where you'll oversee a department or delegate work to a team. We're looking for someone who enjoys both developing ideas and bringing them to life. You'll be responsible for managing Unravel's marketing and communications efforts, including social media, email marketing, digital campaigns, storytelling, and content creation. We need someone who can see the big picture but is equally comfortable handling the day-to-day details. Whether you're creating engaging social media content, building an email campaign, refreshing graphics, or finding creative ways to reach new supporters, you'll take ownership from start to finish. You'll work directly with our founder and collaborate closely with a small, dedicated team. Because we're a small organization, flexibility and a willingness to support other areas of the organization are essential. Key Responsibilities Marketing Strategy & Growth Develop and execute marketing strategies that increase awareness, engagement, and support for Unravel's mission. Identify creative, cost-effective opportunities to reach new audiences and expand our visibility. Plan and execute marketing campaigns across multiple channels. Develop strategies to grow our social media following, email audience, and overall engagement. Monitor marketing performance and adjust strategies based on results. Stay current on marketing trends and identify opportunities to improve our outreach. Social Media Management Manage Unravel's social media accounts and content calendar. Create engaging posts, reels, videos, graphics, and other content. Develop strategies to increase followers, engagement, and reach. Identify opportunities to connect with new audiences and strengthen relationships with existing supporters. Monitor social media performance and make recommendations for improvement. Maintain a consistent voice and message across platforms. Fundraising & Event Marketing Support Collaborate with the events and fundraising teams to develop marketing materials and promotional campaigns. Create content supporting fundraising events, donor engagement, and community initiatives. Assist with event-related communications, including invitations, promotional emails, social media campaigns, and follow-up messaging. Help identify opportunities to increase event visibility, participation, and fundraising support. Email Marketing & Communications Manage email marketing campaigns, newsletters, fundraising appeals, and donor communications using Constant Contact . Write compelling email content that inspires engagement and action. Create and maintain email templates, audience segments, and automated campaigns. Develop strategies to grow and engage Unravel's email audience. Monitor email performance, including open rates, click-through rates, and engagement. Maintain consistent messaging across organizational communications. Storytelling & Content Creation Develop meaningful content that communicates the urgency of pediatric cancer research and the impact of Unravel's work. Write compelling stories, campaign messaging, fundraising appeals, and promotional materials. Work with the team to highlight research developments, fundraising initiatives, events, and community involvement. Translate complex topics into accessible, engaging content for a variety of audiences. Ensure communications reflect Unravel's mission, values, and brand voice. Graphic Design & Brand Consistency Use Canva to create and update graphics for social media, email campaigns, fundraising events, and promotional materials. Refresh existing designs and templates to keep communications engaging and visually appealing. Maintain consistency with Unravel's established brand guidelines. Create polished, professional materials without requiring extensive original graphic design work. Website maintenance and updates are handled internally and are not a primary responsibility of this position. Team Collaboration & Organizational Support Work closely with the founder and other team members to support organizational goals. Assist with projects and responsibilities outside traditional marketing duties when needed. Adapt to changing priorities and help identify solutions to organizational challenges. Contribute to a collaborative, all-hands-on-deck environment where everyone works together to advance Unravel's mission. Qualifications Required Qualifications 3–5 years of hands-on experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or a related field. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with nonprofit organizations, fundraising campaigns, or mission-driven businesses. Experience growing social media audiences and increasing engagement. Experience with grassroots marketing and community outreach. Familiarity with digital marketing analytics and performance tracking. Experience creating short-form video content, including Reels. Interest in pediatric cancer awareness, medical research, or nonprofit advocacy. What We're Looking For We're not looking for someone who wants to manage a large department or oversee a team of employees. We're looking for someone who loves doing the work.
