How to Apply for Senior Field Electrical Engineer

at TeraWatt Infrastructure

🏢 About TeraWatt Infrastructure

TeraWatt Infrastructure is at the forefront of the EV charging revolution, specializing in large-scale charging solutions for commercial fleets. Their mission to accelerate fleet electrification and reduce carbon emissions makes them a key player in the transition to sustainable transportation. Working here offers the chance to directly impact the infrastructure that will power the future of logistics and transportation.

About This Role

As a Senior Field Electrical Engineer, you will be the technical backbone of EV charging site deployments, overseeing everything from construction to energization and ongoing operations. Your role is critical in ensuring that complex electrical systems are installed correctly, safely, and efficiently, directly enabling the expansion of fleet electrification across North America. This position combines hands-on technical problem-solving with leadership and cross-functional coordination, making it both challenging and rewarding.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve visiting an active construction site to oversee electrical installations, resolving a technical issue with a contractor, and then reviewing commissioning test results from another site. You might spend time on calls with utility engineers to coordinate energization, or analyze data from a recently commissioned site to ensure it's operating within spec. The role blends fieldwork with desk work, requiring flexibility and strong time management.

📝 Tips for Applying to TeraWatt Infrastructure

1

Highlight specific projects where you led field commissioning or troubleshooting of medium/low-voltage systems, quantifying the scale (e.g., MW capacity, number of sites).

2

Mention any direct experience with EV charging infrastructure, even if it's a side project or coursework, to show your passion for the industry.

3

Emphasize your ability to work across multiple sites simultaneously and your experience reporting progress to management, as this is a key responsibility.

4

Tailor your resume to include keywords from the job description, such as 'factory acceptance testing,' 'energization readiness,' and 'protective relaying' to pass ATS filters.

5

Include examples of how you've resolved discrepancies between design intent and field conditions, demonstrating your practical engineering judgment.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

- Directly address your experience with EV charging or clean energy electrification, and explain why you're passionate about reducing carbon emissions through fleet electrification. - Provide a specific example of a complex electrical issue you resolved in the field, highlighting your technical expertise and decision-making skills. - Emphasize your ability to work collaboratively with contractors, utilities, and AHJs, as this role requires strong interpersonal skills. - Mention your familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NEC, UL, IEEE) and how you apply them in real-world scenarios.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Describe a time you had to make a critical technical decision on-site with incomplete information. What was the outcome?
2 How would you approach troubleshooting a DC fast charger that keeps tripping a breaker? Walk me through your process.
3 What experience do you have with factory acceptance testing? Can you give an example of a test that revealed a major issue?
4 How do you prioritize tasks when managing multiple sites simultaneously, especially when there are competing deadlines?
5 How do you stay updated on evolving codes and standards like NEC, UL, and IEEE, and how do you apply them in your work?
