How to apply for Procurement & Supply Chain Manager
Climeworks
About Climeworks
Climeworks develops and operates direct air capture facilities that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The company runs the Orca and Mammoth plants in Iceland. Working there means procurement work directly supports industrial-scale carbon removal.
About the role
This role leads procurement and supply chain for Climeworks' direct air capture plants in Iceland. You are the primary procurement contact for the Mammoth and Orca projects on-site. The work covers sourcing, contracts, supplier relationships, RFQs and RFPs, MRO purchasing, and ad hoc logistics.
A typical day
A typical day could include running an RFQ for MRO parts, evaluating supplier bids, and preparing a pre-award recommendation. You might also expedite an open order, check supplier performance, and handle an ad hoc logistics request for the Mammoth or Orca site. The role is remote but includes about 10% travel, mainly within Iceland, so some days are on-site with suppliers or plant teams.
Who Climeworks is looking for
- 5+ years in procurement, MRO, category management, or project procurement.
- Strong hands-on skills in running RFQs and RFPs, evaluating suppliers, leading negotiations, and preparing pre-award recommendations.
- Experience with post-award contract administration, expediting, and supplier performance monitoring.
- Able to build and manage a local supplier network for industrial services, MRO, site support, and logistics; SAP ERP experience preferred; fluent English; about 10% travel mainly within Iceland.
Tips for this application
- Name the Orca and Mammoth projects in your application and state that you understand this role is the on-site procurement contact for both.
- Give concrete examples of RFQs and RFPs you have run, including spend size, category, and the outcome you negotiated.
- Show MRO and industrial services sourcing experience. Climeworks needs someone who can buy for plant operations, not just office or IT categories.
- If you have SAP ERP experience, list it clearly. If not, describe the ERP or procurement systems you have used instead.
- Address the Iceland location and the roughly 10% travel directly. If you are not based in Iceland, explain your plan for being on-site and working with local suppliers.
What to cover in your cover letter
Cover letter should focus on: (1) your RFQ/RFP and negotiation results with specific numbers; (2) your MRO and category management experience in an industrial or plant environment; (3) your ability to build a local supplier network for industrial services, site support, and logistics; (4) your experience with post-award contract administration, expediting, and supplier performance monitoring. Mention SAP if you have it.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Read Climeworks material on the Orca and Mammoth direct air capture plants in Iceland so you can speak to what these sites need.
- Understand what direct air capture plants require in terms of MRO, industrial services, and site support.
- Look into the Icelandic supplier market for industrial services, MRO, and logistics to prepare for questions about local sourcing.
- Check Climeworks' recent news and project updates to know the current status of Mammoth and Orca.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- Walk through an RFQ or RFP you ran from start to finish, including how you evaluated suppliers and prepared the pre-award recommendation.
- How have you managed post-award contract administration, expediting, and supplier performance monitoring when a supplier missed a delivery date?
- Describe how you would build a local supplier network in Iceland for industrial services, MRO, site support, and logistics.
- What is your experience with MRO purchasing and category management in an operating plant environment?
- How do you handle ad hoc logistics requests when plant operations need something urgently?
Common mistakes to avoid
- Submitting a generic procurement resume that does not mention MRO, industrial services, or plant operations.
- Claiming RFQ/RFP and negotiation skills without giving specific examples, spend amounts, or outcomes.
- Ignoring the Iceland location and the 10% travel requirement, or failing to explain how you would work with local suppliers.
