How to apply for Operations Officer/Manager
Healthy Futures Global
About Healthy Futures Global
Healthy Futures Global is a USA-based nonprofit with a laser focus on eliminating deaths and disease from congenital syphilis—a preventable but often overlooked global health crisis. Working here means joining a small, mission-driven team where your operational work directly enables life-saving programs in Angola, the Philippines, and beyond. The remote-first setup and international scope offer a rare chance to build systems that scale impact across borders.
About the role
As Operations Officer/Manager, you'll be the operational backbone of the organization, owning finance, HR, compliance, and SOP development across US and country offices. You'll also act as a chief-of-staff to leadership, handling capacity planning, team coordination, and logistics so program staff can focus on eliminating congenital syphilis. This is a high-impact generalist role where you'll build processes from the ground up and see your work directly support global health outcomes.
A typical day
You might start your day reviewing financial reports from the Angola office, then jump on a call with the Philippines team to troubleshoot an HR issue. Later, you'll prepare a briefing for the executive director, update an SOP for procurement, and coordinate logistics for an upcoming program visit. Every day is a mix of strategic and hands-on work, all in service of eliminating congenital syphilis.
Who Healthy Futures Global is looking for
- You have 2+ years of experience in operations, management consulting, or a similar generalist role, ideally in a nonprofit or global health context.
- You're a Google Suite power user (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) who can build financial trackers, HR templates, and SOPs from scratch.
- You have C1-level English proficiency and can communicate clearly with teams across time zones, including in Angola and the Philippines.
- You're familiar with antenatal care systems or eager to learn how congenital syphilis prevention fits into maternal health programs.
Tips for this application
- Highlight any experience you have with international operations or working across US and country offices—mention specific countries if possible.
- Showcase your Google Suite expertise by describing concrete examples of systems you've built (e.g., financial dashboards, SOP libraries, HR onboarding trackers).
- In your resume, quantify your impact: 'Reduced monthly close time by 30%' or 'Developed 15 SOPs for a 50-person org'.
- Demonstrate familiarity with congenital syphilis or antenatal care by referencing the WHO's elimination goals or recent global health reports in your cover letter.
- Emphasize your ability to work remotely and asynchronously—mention tools like Slack, Asana, or Notion and how you keep distributed teams aligned.
What to cover in your cover letter
Focus on your generalist operations experience and how you've built systems that scale. Explain why congenital syphilis elimination resonates with you, and give examples of supporting program staff through logistics and admin. Highlight your ability to work across cultures and time zones, and mention any experience with compliance or HR in a nonprofit setting. Finally, show how you've acted as a chief-of-staff or supported senior leadership with capacity planning and meeting prep.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Read the WHO's global guidance on eliminating congenital syphilis and understand the key interventions (e.g., antenatal screening, treatment).
- Explore Healthy Futures Global's website and any recent reports or press releases to understand their current programs in Angola and the Philippines.
- Look up the founders and leadership team on LinkedIn to understand their backgrounds and priorities.
- Research common operational challenges for small global health nonprofits, such as compliance with US and local regulations, and remote team management.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- How would you build a financial tracking system for a nonprofit with offices in the US, Angola, and the Philippines?
- Describe a time you developed an SOP that improved efficiency for a remote team.
- How would you prioritize competing requests from program staff and leadership?
- What do you know about congenital syphilis and how operations can support elimination efforts?
- Tell us about your experience with compliance and HR across international contexts.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Avoid generic cover letters that don't mention congenital syphilis or the specific countries where Healthy Futures Global operates.
- Don't overemphasize programmatic or clinical experience if you lack operations skills—this role is about systems, not direct service delivery.
- Avoid showing a lack of comfort with remote work or asynchronous communication, as the team is distributed across multiple time zones.
