Job description

Global Culture Network (GCN) is an international, culture-focused initiative committed to promoting multilingual education, preserving cultural heritage, encouraging cross-cultural understanding, and making language learning more accessible to people around the world. Through digital education, storytelling, films, music, and community engagement, GCN seeks to connect people across linguistic and cultural boundaries. We believe every language carries a unique history, identity, knowledge system, and cultural heritage. From internationally spoken languages to Indigenous, minority, regional, and endangered languages, every language deserves recognition and opportunities for preservation. GCN is seeking qualified, passionate, and culturally aware Native Language Teachers to help develop and deliver engaging online language-learning experiences for learners from different countries and backgrounds. Position Overview The Native Language Teacher will teach their language to learners through GCN's online learning initiatives. The successful applicant should have strong knowledge of the language they intend to teach, preferably be a native speaker, and possess a relevant educational background or recognized language-teaching qualification. We welcome applications from qualified teachers of languages worldwide, including major international languages, African languages, Indigenous languages, minority languages, regional languages, and endangered languages. Applicants do not need to speak every language. Each applicant should demonstrate proficiency in the particular language they wish to teach. Our goal is to make language learning more inclusive while supporting the preservation and transmission of languages and cultural knowledge from one generation to another. Key Responsibilities Online Language Teaching: Teach the selected language to learners at appropriate levels, from beginners to more advanced students, according to the program's needs. Lesson Development: Prepare structured lessons, learning materials, exercises, and practical activities that support effective language acquisition. Speaking and Pronunciation: Help learners develop listening, speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills appropriate to the language being taught. Cultural Education: Explain relevant cultural traditions, expressions, customs, values, historical context, and everyday communication practices while respecting the diversity of language communities. Learning Resources: Assist in creating educational videos, recorded lessons, pronunciation guides, written materials, dialogues, and other digital learning resources. Assessment and Feedback: Evaluate learners' progress, provide constructive feedback, and recommend ways to improve their language skills. Language Preservation: Where relevant, contribute to documenting vocabulary, expressions, oral traditions, and other language resources, particularly for Indigenous, minority, and endangered languages. Such work must respect community knowledge, consent, and cultural protocols. Digital Collaboration: Work with GCN's education, media, content, and language teams to improve the quality and accessibility of learning materials. Inclusive Teaching: Adapt teaching approaches to learners with different educational backgrounds, ages, abilities, and levels of language proficiency. Professional Development: Participate in relevant meetings, training, planning sessions, and program evaluations as reasonably required. Required Qualifications and Experience Applicants should meet the following requirements: Native or near-native proficiency: Native-speaker status is strongly preferred. Applicants who are not native speakers may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional proficiency, relevant qualifications, and strong teaching competence. Educational background: A degree, diploma, teaching certificate, or other relevant educational qualification in language education, linguistics, education, translation, literature, or a related field is preferred. Applicants with recognized language-teaching credentials or substantial relevant teaching experience may also be considered. Teaching ability: The ability to explain language concepts clearly and teach learners in an organized, engaging, and supportive manner. Language expertise: Strong knowledge of the language's grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, everyday usage, and relevant cultural context. Computer ownership: Applicants must have access to their own functional personal computer or laptop suitable for online teaching and preparation of digital learning materials. Internet access: Applicants must have reliable internet access that supports online communication, virtual teaching, and the submission of learning resources. Digital communication: Ability to use, or willingness to learn, common online meeting platforms, digital teaching tools, and content-sharing applications. Communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and work respectfully with learners and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. Reliability: Good time management, professionalism, preparation, and commitment to agreed teaching schedules and responsibilities. Cultural sensitivity: Respect for linguistic diversity, cultural differences, and the identities of the communities whose languages are being taught. Candidates who can demonstrate their language proficiency and teaching ability through a sample lesson, recorded demonstration, or interview may be asked to do so during the selection process.
