How to Apply for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer, Innovation

at Results for Development

๐Ÿข About Results for Development

Results for Development (R4D) is a global nonprofit that partners with governments and local organizations in low- and middle-income countries to design and implement innovative social sector reforms. They are known for their evidence-driven approach and commitment to sustainable, locally-led solutions, making them a unique place for professionals passionate about systems change and measurable impact.

About This Role

As the MEL Officer for Innovation, you will lead the monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems for three cutting-edge programmesโ€”Tech Community of Expertise Helpdesk, Frontier Technologies Hub, and IDIAโ€”that are at the forefront of technology and innovation in development. Your work will directly inform evidence-based decision-making and foster learning networks that amplify the impact of these initiatives across multiple stakeholders.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve checking in with programme leads to discuss MEL progress, analyzing survey data from a recent helpdesk engagement, and preparing a learning brief for a government partner. You might also facilitate a virtual workshop with implementing partners to capture lessons learned and update the learning agenda. In the afternoon, you could be reviewing a MEL framework for the Frontier Technologies Hub or coordinating with a consultant on a qualitative study.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Results for Development Is Looking For

  • You have an MA in international development, public policy, economics, or a related field, plus 5+ years of hands-on experience implementing MEL systems for complex, partnership-focused programmes.
  • You are equally comfortable with quantitative and qualitative research methods, from designing surveys and analyzing data to conducting interviews and facilitating learning workshops.
  • You bring a deep understanding of innovation and agile methodologies, and you know how to adapt MEL approaches to fast-paced, iterative projects.
  • You are an excellent communicator and collaborator, able to synthesize insights and present them clearly to diverse audiences, including government officials, funders, and implementing partners.
  • You are fluent in English and ideally have experience working in low- and middle-income countries, with a passion for using evidence to drive social change.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Results for Development

3 How do you ensure that MEL findings are actually used by decision-makers? Give an example.
