General Counsel

• Build FAR.AI's legal infrastructure from scratch, including commercial contracting, compliance, internal policies, governance, employment, data privacy, intellectual property, and risk assessment.
• Partner with leadership to shape the organization's future and enable funding, research, events, and expansion into new geographies.
• Use AI legal tools as a core part of legal practice.

This role builds the institutional backbone of the AI safety field, enabling FAR.AI to fund research, run events, and shape how advanced AI systems are developed and governed, ensuring AI is safe and beneficial for everyone.

• Strong judgment and comfort making calls with imperfect information; ability to translate legal complexity for non-lawyers.
• Demonstrated experience across contracting, governance, employment, data privacy, and compliance.
• Track record of building legal programs from scratch.
• Experience at a technology or AI organization; comfort using AI legal tools.

Annualized salary reference: $250,000 - $350,000 (employment). Work-related travel and equipment expenses paid. Catered lunch and dinner at Berkeley office. Flexible part-time or full-time structure.
