Tips for this application
- Tailor your resume to highlight specific examples of process improvements you've made in hiring, with quantified results (e.g., reduced time-to-fill by X%).
- In your cover letter, explicitly mention your experience with director-level searches and your ability to work in a remote, bipartisan environment.
- Research AI policy and the organization's mission, and weave that into your application to show genuine interest.
- If you have experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and metrics tracking, be sure to highlight the specific tools you've used.
- Since the role is remote, emphasize your experience working with distributed teams and your ability to manage communication across time zones.
What to cover in your cover letter
• Emphasize your track record of leading end-to-end hiring for multiple roles simultaneously, especially senior/director-level positions. • Highlight your experience in improving hiring processes, using data and metrics to drive decisions. • Show your alignment with the mission of AI Policy Network and your understanding of the importance of bipartisan AI policy. • Mention your ability to advise hiring managers and your project management skills in coordinating interviews and candidate communication.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Familiarize yourself with AI Policy Network's mission, recent publications, and policy positions to understand their focus.
- Research the current state of AI policy debates in the U.S. and key players in the field to speak knowledgeably in interviews.
- Look into the organization's leadership team and their backgrounds to understand the culture and values.
- Review their careers page and job postings to see how they currently describe roles and what might need improvement.
- Check if they have any public statements about their hiring practices or team growth to understand their scaling challenges.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- Describe a time you improved a hiring process that was already in motion. What metrics did you use to measure success?
- How do you source candidates for director-level roles in a niche field like AI policy?
- How do you manage multiple concurrent searches and prioritize your time?
- How would you advise a hiring manager who is struggling to evaluate candidates consistently?
- What is your experience with applicant tracking systems and how do you use them to improve pipeline quality?
Common mistakes to avoid
- Avoid a generic cover letter that doesn't reference AI policy or the organization's specific mission.
- Don't overlook the importance of process improvement; be ready to discuss concrete examples of how you've optimized hiring.
- Avoid neglecting to mention your remote work experience, as this role is remote and requires self-management and communication skills.
- Don't focus only on agency recruiting experience; highlight in-house talent leadership and project management.
- Avoid being vague about metrics; quantify your achievements (e.g., time-to-fill, candidate satisfaction, etc.)
Deadline
No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
