How to Apply for Head of Iberia and LatAm Labour Mobility and Venture Builder
at Africa Jobs Fund
🏢 About Africa Jobs Fund
The Africa Jobs Fund is a venture-building and investment platform focused on two high-impact sectors: export manufacturing and international labor mobility. Unlike traditional PE or VC firms, they don't just invest—they actively co-found and scale companies that connect African workers to global employers, directly increasing incomes for Africans. This is a rare opportunity to combine venture building, investment structuring, and on-the-ground operational support in a single role.
About This Role
This is a hybrid venture builder, investment associate, and portfolio operator role. You will be responsible for sourcing and convincing founders to launch staffing and recruitment companies that place African workers in Spain, Portugal, and Latin America, then assessing and structuring the deals, and finally supporting those companies from inception to scale. It's a high-ownership position that blends business development, investment analysis, and hands-on operational support across multiple regions.
💡 A Day in the Life
Your day might start with a call with a potential founder in Nigeria to discuss a new staffing venture for Portugal, followed by a deep-dive into a financial model for an existing portfolio company in Brazil. In the afternoon, you might meet with an employer in Madrid to understand their hiring needs, then draft an investment memo for the fund's committee. Expect frequent travel and a mix of video calls, in-person meetings, and hands-on problem-solving with portfolio teams.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who Africa Jobs Fund Is Looking For
- Has 5–25 years of experience with founding or senior operating experience, including full P&L responsibility, ideally in staffing, recruitment, or labor mobility.
- Possesses a strong network and on-the-ground experience in Africa, particularly in countries that are major sources of labor migration (e.g., Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal).
- Speaks fluent Spanish or Portuguese (ideally both) and is comfortable negotiating and building relationships in Spain, Portugal, and LatAm markets.
- Is a self-starter who can both cold-call potential founders and employers, and also dive into financial models and term sheets with equal comfort.
- Is willing to travel frequently across Africa, Iberia, and LatAm, and thrives in a remote-first, fast-moving environment.
📝 Tips for Applying to Africa Jobs Fund
Lead with your P&L experience: quantify revenue, margins, or headcount growth you managed, especially in staffing or labor mobility.
Highlight specific corridors you know well (e.g., Morocco–Spain, Nigeria–Portugal, Senegal–Brazil) and demonstrate your understanding of the regulatory and cultural nuances.
Show that you can both source deals and operate: describe a time you convinced a founder to start a company or pivoted a business, and then supported it operationally.
Use your language skills as a differentiator: mention your Spanish/Portuguese proficiency in the first paragraph and give examples of business conducted in those languages.
Demonstrate your network: list relevant contacts you have in African labor ministries, recruitment agencies, or employer groups in Iberia/LatAm, without violating confidentiality.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
1) Your hands-on experience building or scaling a staffing/recruitment company, including P&L ownership. 2) Your deep knowledge of African labor markets and migration corridors to Spain, Portugal, and LatAm. 3) Your ability to source and convince founders, assess investments, and structure deals. 4) Your language skills and willingness to travel extensively across the target regions.
Generate Cover Letter →🔍 Research Before Applying
To stand out, make sure you've researched:
- → Study the Africa Jobs Fund's existing portfolio companies in labor mobility: who are they, which corridors do they serve, and what stage are they at?
- → Understand the legal and visa frameworks for labor migration from key African countries to Spain, Portugal, and major LatAm economies (e.g., Brazil, Mexico).
- → Map out the competitive landscape: identify existing staffing agencies, recruiters, and platforms operating in these corridors, and note any gaps.
- → Research recent labor market trends and shortages in Spain, Portugal, and LatAm that could be filled by African workers (e.g., agriculture, hospitality, healthcare).
💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
Based on this role, you may be asked about:
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying without demonstrating any hands-on experience in staffing, recruitment, or labor mobility—this role requires operational credibility, not just investment acumen.
- Ignoring the language requirement: if you don't speak Spanish or Portuguese, don't apply unless you are actively learning and can show progress.
- Focusing only on investment skills and neglecting venture building: the role is as much about convincing founders and rolling up your sleeves as it is about assessing deals.
