How to apply for Digital Resource Manager

Faunalytics

About Faunalytics

Faunalytics is a research-driven nonprofit that equips animal advocates with data and strategic guidance to make evidence-based decisions. Working here means directly supporting the animal welfare movement with rigorous research and practical tools, and you'd be part of a small, mission-focused team that values autonomy and impact. If you want your technical skills to advance animal advocacy, this is a rare opportunity.

About the role

As the Digital Resource Manager, you'll own Faunalytics' digital backbone—keeping WordPress running smoothly, optimizing content structures, and building API integrations across Google Workspace, Asana, Airtable, and WordPress. You'll also evaluate and implement AI tools and workflow automations to streamline research publishing and internal operations. This role is critical for ensuring that research reaches advocates efficiently and that the team can focus on high-value work.

A typical day

You might start by checking site health and responding to a WordPress issue reported by a researcher, then spend time scripting an API sync between Airtable and WordPress to update a research database. Later, you'd evaluate a new AI summarization tool, test it on recent publications, and document recommendations for the team. You'd also join a brief sync with communications staff to prioritize upcoming content needs.

Who Faunalytics is looking for

  • 3+ years in web administration or digital content operations, with hands-on WordPress management (themes, plugins, custom post types, taxonomies) and strong HTML/CSS skills.
  • Proficient in Python (or similar) for scripting, plus experience building and maintaining API integrations between SaaS platforms like Google Workspace, Asana, Airtable, and WordPress.
  • Comfortable with no-code databases (Airtable) and workflow automation tools (Zapier, Make, or similar), and able to evaluate and implement AI tools for content and research workflows.
  • Self-directed and mission-aligned, able to troubleshoot technical issues independently and communicate effectively with non-technical teammates in a remote nonprofit environment.

Tips for this application

  • Highlight specific examples of WordPress sites you've managed—include metrics like uptime, page speed improvements, or content workflow efficiencies you achieved.
  • Showcase API integration projects in your portfolio or GitHub; describe the platforms connected, the problem solved, and the code/approach used (e.g., Python scripts, Zapier workflows).
  • Demonstrate familiarity with animal advocacy or nonprofit research contexts—mention any volunteer work, coursework, or personal projects related to animal welfare or evidence-based advocacy.
  • In your application, explicitly address how you've used AI tools to automate content operations or research tasks, and mention any ethical considerations you keep in mind.
  • Tailor your resume and cover letter to emphasize remote work success and independent project management, since Faunalytics is a distributed team.

What to cover in your cover letter

In your cover letter, focus on: (1) your hands-on WordPress and API integration experience, with concrete examples; (2) your ability to design and implement automation that saves time and reduces errors; (3) your alignment with Faunalytics' mission and understanding of the animal advocacy landscape; and (4) your approach to evaluating and adopting AI tools responsibly in a research context.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • Walk us through a complex WordPress problem you diagnosed and fixed—what was the issue and how did you resolve it?
  • How would you approach integrating Airtable with WordPress to automate publishing research summaries? Describe the steps and tools.
  • What factors do you consider when evaluating an AI tool for content generation or data extraction in a research nonprofit?
  • Tell us about a time you automated a manual workflow. What was the impact on time or accuracy?
  • How do you prioritize competing technical requests from different teams in a remote, mission-driven organization?

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Avoid generic cover letters that don't mention Faunalytics' mission or the animal advocacy context—this role requires mission alignment.
  • Don't overstate technical skills without concrete examples; the interview will likely dig into specific WordPress and API scenarios.
  • Avoid focusing only on web development and ignoring automation/AI aspects—the role is heavily about workflow efficiency and integration.
