How to Apply for Customer Success Manager

at Enode

๐Ÿข About Enode

Enode is at the forefront of the green energy transition, providing APIs that connect and orchestrate distributed energy resources like solar panels, EV chargers, and batteries. Working here means directly contributing to a flexible, renewable-powered electricity grid, solving one of the biggest challenges in climate tech.

About This Role

As the first Customer Success Manager at Enode, you'll own the entire post-sales lifecycle for key customersโ€”from product development to launch and scaleโ€”while building the CS function from the ground up. Your work will directly impact customer retention, expansion, and the evolution of Enode's product roadmap.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

You'd start your day reviewing customer health dashboards and prioritizing outreach to at-risk accounts. Mid-morning, you might join a call with a customer's engineering team to troubleshoot an integration issue, then spend the afternoon collaborating with product on feature requests. You'd also carve out time to document new CS playbooks and test a new onboarding flow.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Enode Is Looking For

  • Has 2+ years of early-stage CS experience at a fast-growing startup, or a background in management consulting with a focus on technology, startups, or energy.
  • Thrives in ambiguity and can take high agency to shape processes and systems without a playbook.
  • Combines strong analytical skills with first-principles thinking to solve complex customer challenges.
  • Builds trust-based relationships with both technical (product, engineering) and business stakeholders.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Enode

1

Highlight specific examples of how you've built or scaled a CS function from scratch, including any tools or processes you implemented.

2

Showcase your understanding of API products and how you've supported technical customers in integrating or scaling with an API.

3

Quantify your impact in previous rolesโ€”e.g., retention rates, expansion revenue, or NPS improvements.

4

Tailor your cover letter to mention your passion for climate tech or renewable energy, even if it's a recent interest.

5

Mention any experience with energy hardware or IoT, as it's highly relevant to Enode's domain.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your ability to operate autonomously and build CS processes from scratch in a fast-paced startup.', 'Your experience managing complex, technical customer relationships (e.g., with engineering teams).', 'Your analytical approach to understanding customer needs and driving product improvements.', "Your genuine interest in Enode's mission to accelerate the green energy transition."]

๐Ÿ” Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Read Enode's blog and documentation to understand their API offerings and target customers (e.g., energy companies, OEMs).
  • โ†’ Look into recent news or funding rounds to understand their growth stage and market position.
  • โ†’ Familiarize yourself with the competitive landscape of energy APIs (e.g., Octopus Energy, GridX).
  • โ†’ Understand the basics of distributed energy resources (DERs) and how APIs enable grid flexibility.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you design the customer onboarding process for a new API customer?
2 Describe a time you turned around an at-risk customer relationship. What steps did you take?
3 How do you prioritize which customers to focus on when you have a large portfolio?
4 How would you collaborate with the product team to ensure customer feedback is incorporated into the roadmap?
5 What metrics would you use to measure customer success in an early-stage startup like Enode?
