AI Governance & Data Protection Expert

• Design and implement the Responsible AI framework, including governance protocols, ethical guidelines, and human-in-the-loop safeguards for AI/ML models.
• Ensure data privacy and security compliance by conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and aligning with WHO standards, GDPR, and regional data sovereignty regulations.
• Develop and execute testing protocols to detect and mitigate algorithmic bias, ensuring equitable AI-driven insights.
• Lead ethical capacity building by designing and delivering training modules on AI literacy and responsible data use for WHO staff.

This role ensures that AI and data-driven tools deployed for the WHO Regional Office for Africa are ethical, transparent, and equitable, directly contributing to improved health outcomes and reduced disparities across the region.

• Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field with at least 6 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with at least 9 years of experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in AI ethics, governance, data privacy, or related field.
• Prior experience working on at least one MCC assignment (e.g., DQR, evaluation, M&E) with a period of performance of 6 months or longer.
• Strong ability to assess data quality risks and translate sector knowledge into practical findings and recommendations.
