How to apply for Utility Commissioning Engineer Batteriespeicher (BESS) (m/w/d)

Tesvolt

About Tesvolt

Tesvolt builds commercial battery storage systems made in Germany. The company uses an agile organization without hierarchy or formal bureaucracy. Decisions are made together in teams.

About the role

This role owns the technical commissioning of utility-scale battery storage systems. You plan, coordinate, and manage all commissioning activities from preparation to handover. You also lead EPCs, service partners, and subcontractors on site.

A typical day

You might review commissioning readiness documents and coordinate with an EPC partner in the morning. Later you could join a remote call to troubleshoot an EMS or SCADA interface issue. Some days you travel to a project site to oversee functional and performance tests.

Who Tesvolt is looking for

  • Experience commissioning utility-scale battery storage systems or comparable power infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of interfaces between battery storage, PCS, EMS, SCADA, medium-voltage systems, and grid connection
  • Proven ability to lead EPCs, service partners, and subcontractors in a technical capacity
  • Skilled at running functional, integration, and performance tests and solving technical problems with cross-functional teams

Tips for this application

  • Highlight specific utility-scale BESS commissioning projects you have led, including system size and your exact role.
  • Name the battery, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and medium-voltage equipment you have worked with.
  • Describe how you have coordinated EPCs, service partners, or subcontractors during commissioning.
  • Mention your experience with grid connection procedures and local grid codes relevant to utility-scale storage.
  • Address the remote nature of the role and state your willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

What to cover in your cover letter

['Your hands-on experience commissioning utility-scale battery storage systems from preparation to operational handover.', 'Your ability to manage technical interfaces across battery, PCS, EMS, SCADA, medium voltage, and grid connection.', 'A concrete example of leading EPCs or subcontractors through commissioning and resolving technical issues.', "Why Tesvolt's agile, no-hierarchy structure fits how you work and make decisions."]

Draft a cover letter

  • Tesvolt's agile organizational model and how decisions are made in teams.
  • Typical utility-scale BESS commissioning scope, including grid connection and medium-voltage requirements.
  • Recent Tesvolt projects or announcements related to utility-scale storage deployments.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • Walk through a utility-scale BESS commissioning project you led from start to handover.
  • How do you verify commissioning readiness of systems and technical interfaces before energization?
  • Describe a time you resolved a technical problem during functional or performance testing.
  • How do you coordinate between battery, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and medium-voltage teams during commissioning?
  • How do you manage EPCs, service partners, and subcontractors to keep commissioning on schedule?
Practise interview questions

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Listing battery experience without specifying utility-scale commissioning work.
  • Ignoring the grid connection and medium-voltage interface requirements in your application.
  • Applying without showing willingness to travel to project sites for commissioning.

Deadline

No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
