How to apply for Technical Solutions Civil Manager

AECOM

About AECOM

AECOM is a global infrastructure firm that builds sustainable legacies through innovative infrastructure and environmental solutions. The company operates across transportation, water, energy, and environmental markets, giving employees exposure to large-scale, complex projects. Working here means contributing to projects that shape communities and address environmental challenges.

About the role

This remote Technical Solutions Civil Manager role is a client-facing advisory and technical position. You will help AEC clients and AECOM project teams modernize data and project workflows by driving adoption of digital solutions and leading implementation of advanced technology platforms. The focus is on maximizing ROI and enabling data-driven digital products across the full project lifecycle.

A typical day

A typical day may include building or reviewing Civil 3D models, preparing earthwork calculations and QTOs, and coordinating model and data exchange with internal teams and external consultants. You may also join client meetings to advise on digital solutions and workflow modernization. The role is remote, so much of the coordination happens through virtual meetings and shared data platforms.

Who AECOM is looking for

  • Expert in Autodesk Civil 3D with hands-on experience building surfaces, corridors, and grading models for roads, drainage, land development, utilities, and stabilization projects.
  • Skilled at creating existing-condition surfaces from LiDAR, DEMs, survey data, and breaklines, plus performing earthwork calculations and quantity takeoffs.
  • Experienced with 3D federated models using Autodesk and Bentley tools such as Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, Bentley iTwin, and MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Comfortable managing coordinate systems, data transformations, and lifecycle data management while working independently and coordinating with clients and consultants.

Tips for this application

  • Lead your resume with specific Civil 3D deliverables you have produced: surfaces, corridors, grading, earthwork calculations, and QTOs. Name the project types (roads, drainage, land development, utilities, stabilization/restoration).
  • List the exact software stack from the job description in your skills section: Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, Bentley iTwin, MicroStation, OpenRoads. Do not just say 'Autodesk and Bentley products'.
  • Provide examples of BIM/CAD standards you have developed, updated, or enforced. AECOM wants someone who can own standards, not just follow them.
  • Highlight remote work experience and client-facing advisory work. This role works from any state and involves client meetings, so show you can manage relationships remotely.
  • Include a short section on data management: coordinate systems, data transformations, LiDAR/DEM/survey data processing, and lifecycle data management. These are core responsibilities, not nice-to-haves.

What to cover in your cover letter

['Your experience as a trusted advisor to clients on digital solutions and workflow modernization, with concrete examples of ROI or efficiency gains.', 'Specific Civil 3D modeling work: surfaces, corridors, grading, earthwork calculations, and QTOs across the project types listed in the job description.', 'Your ability to build and manage 3D federated models using both Autodesk and Bentley tools, including clash detection and LOD/COBie compliance.', 'How you have developed or enforced BIM/CAD standards and managed coordinate systems and data transformations for survey and client datasets.']

Draft a cover letter

Research before applying

  • Review AECOM's digital delivery and technology initiatives, especially any public materials on BIM, digital twins, or lifecycle data management.
  • Look at AECOM's project portfolio in roads, drainage, land development, utilities, and stabilization/restoration to understand the types of work you would support.
  • Check AECOM's sustainability and environmental commitments to understand how digital solutions tie into their stated goals.
  • Research AECOM's remote work policies and how distributed teams coordinate on technical projects, since this role works from any state.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • Walk through how you build an existing-condition surface from LiDAR, DEMs, survey data, and breaklines. What are your checks for accuracy?
  • Describe a time you advised a client on adopting a digital solution. How did you measure ROI?
  • How do you manage coordinate systems and data transformations when exchanging data between internal teams and external consultants?
  • Explain your process for creating a 3D federated model and performing clash detection across Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, and Bentley tools.
  • How have you developed or enforced BIM/CAD standards on a project? What was the outcome?
Practise interview questions

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Listing only general CAD experience without naming Civil 3D, Navisworks, InfraWorks, Bentley iTwin, MicroStation, or OpenRoads. The job requires both Autodesk and Bentley tool familiarity.
  • Focusing only on drafting and production while ignoring the advisory, client-facing, and digital adoption aspects of the role.
  • Omitting data management details like coordinate systems, data transformations, LiDAR/DEM/survey processing, and lifecycle data management, which are listed responsibilities.

Deadline

No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
