How to Apply for Staff Product Manager, Fleet Software

at Charge Point

๐Ÿข About Charge Point

ChargePoint is the world's largest open EV charging network, operating since 2007 and spanning North America and Europe. Unlike many competitors, ChargePoint offers a comprehensive suite of hardware, software, and mobile solutions for every charging need, making it a one-stop shop for businesses, fleets, and drivers. Joining ChargePoint means being part of a mission-driven company at the center of the trillion-dollar electric mobility revolution, with a culture that values courage, collaboration, customer obsession, openness, and relentless pursuit of awesome.

About This Role

As a Staff Product Manager for Fleet Software, you will own the product strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for ChargePoint's fleet charging solutions. This role is pivotal in enabling businesses to electrify their fleets efficiently, directly impacting the adoption of electric vehicles at scale. You'll work at the intersection of hardware, software, and data to deliver seamless charging experiences for fleet operators, drivers, and partners.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve meeting with engineering to refine technical requirements for a new fleet dashboard feature, analyzing usage data to identify opportunities for improving charging reliability, and collaborating with sales to gather feedback from a key fleet customer. You'll also spend time strategizing with the Senior Director on long-term roadmap priorities and ensuring alignment with ChargePoint's overall product vision.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Charge Point Is Looking For

  • 7+ years of product management experience, with a focus on B2B SaaS or enterprise software, preferably in energy, automotive, or fleet management.
  • Proven track record of defining and executing product strategy for complex, data-driven products, with experience in API integrations and platform ecosystems.
  • Deep understanding of fleet operations, telematics, or EV charging infrastructure, including knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., OCPP, ISO 15118).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform decisions, and experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, sales, and customer success.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Charge Point

1

Highlight any experience you have with fleet management software, EV charging, or energy management systems in your resume and cover letterโ€”ChargePoint is looking for domain expertise.

2

Emphasize your ability to drive product strategy from concept to launch, using metrics to demonstrate impact (e.g., increased adoption, revenue growth, or operational efficiency).

3

Showcase your experience working with APIs and integrating with third-party systems, as fleet software often requires seamless connectivity with telematics, fuel cards, and other fleet tools.

4

Demonstrate your understanding of ChargePoint's values (Be Courageous, Charge Together, Love our Customers, Operate with Openness, Relentlessly Pursue Awesome) by weaving them into your application materials.

5

If you have experience with regulatory compliance in EV charging (e.g., NEVI, ADA), mention itโ€”this is a plus for fleet software products.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

In your cover letter, focus on: (1) your specific experience in fleet software or EV charging and why it makes you uniquely qualified; (2) a concrete example of a product you led that delivered measurable business outcomes; (3) your ability to collaborate across hardware and software teams to deliver integrated solutions; and (4) your passion for accelerating EV adoption and how you align with ChargePoint's mission.

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Study ChargePoint's product suite, especially their fleet solutions, to understand how they fit into the broader EV charging ecosystem.
  • โ†’ Research the competitive landscape in EV fleet charging (e.g., competitors like Shell Recharge, EVgo, and Tesla Supercharger) and identify differentiators for ChargePoint.
  • โ†’ Understand key regulations and incentives affecting fleet electrification, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, NEVI, and state-level programs.
  • โ†’ Explore ChargePoint's recent earnings calls, press releases, and product announcements to understand their strategic priorities and challenges.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you prioritize features for a fleet charging software product when balancing the needs of fleet operators, drivers, and site hosts?
2 Describe a time you used data to make a tough product decision. What was the outcome?
3 How would you approach integrating ChargePoint's fleet software with third-party telematics or fuel management systems?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid generic product management languageโ€”ChargePoint wants to see specific examples of how you've solved complex problems in fleet or energy domains.
  • Don't overlook the hardware-software integration aspect; fleet software must work seamlessly with charging stations, so ignoring this in your application is a mistake.
  • Avoid focusing solely on consumer EV charging; fleet software has distinct requirements like depot management, route optimization, and cost tracking, so tailor your experience accordingly.
