How to apply for Sr. Project Manager, Interconnection Projects & Grid Infrastructure Delivery
Antora Energy
About Antora Energy
Antora Energy is a climate-tech company building American-made thermal batteries that store low-cost renewable energy as heat and deliver always-on industrial power without critical minerals or multi-year construction timelines. Working there means joining a mission-driven team that values humility, joy, and creativity while tackling one of the hardest problems in the energy transition: decarbonizing industrial heat and grid reliability.
About the role
As Sr. Project Manager, Interconnection Projects & Grid Infrastructure Delivery, you'll own the end-to-end delivery of interconnection engineering, SCADA/telemetry, and grid infrastructure across MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and PJM. This is a hands-on program management role where you'll write and validate SOWs, control budgets and schedules, and hold consultants, Owner's Engineers, and EPC firms accountable for technically defensible deliverables. Your work directly enables Antora's thermal batteries to connect to the grid at scale.
A typical day
Your day might start with a call with an Owner's Engineer to review a data point list for a project in ERCOT, followed by a budget review meeting with Antora's finance team. Later, you'll draft a statement of work for a new interconnection study in MISO, then jump on a call with an EPC contractor to resolve a schedule slip. You'll constantly balance technical details with program-level oversight, ensuring every deliverable is defensible and every stakeholder is aligned.
Who Antora Energy is looking for
- 8+ years of project/program management experience in utility-scale energy, transmission, or grid infrastructure, with direct exposure to interconnection processes in at least two of MISO, SPP, ERCOT, or PJM.
- Proven ability to manage external engineering and EPC contractors, including writing/validating statements of work, negotiating change orders, and enforcing milestone accountability.
- Engineering fluency sufficient to review one-line diagrams, data point lists, SCADA/telemetry architectures, and interface control documents, and to spot gaps or inconsistencies.
- Strong budget and schedule ownership skills, with experience using tools like Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar, and a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within scope.
Tips for this application
- Highlight specific interconnection projects you've managed in MISO, SPP, ERCOT, or PJM—name the RTO/ISO, project capacity, and your role in the queue process.
- Quantify your budget and schedule control experience: e.g., 'managed $XXM portfolio across X projects, delivering all within 5% of budget.'
- Show engineering fluency by referencing concrete artifacts you've reviewed or created (e.g., data point lists, ICDs, SCADA architecture diagrams) and how you caught errors.
- Mention any experience with thermal energy storage, battery storage, or innovative generation technologies—Antora will value candidates who can adapt to novel technical challenges.
- Demonstrate alignment with Antora's culture by weaving in examples of teamwork, humility, and mission-driven work, and avoid generic corporate language.
What to cover in your cover letter
1) Your hands-on experience managing interconnection and grid infrastructure projects across multiple RTOs/ISOs, with specific examples of SOW writing, budget ownership, and contractor management. 2) Your ability to technically interrogate engineering deliverables (SCADA, telemetry, ICDs) and ensure they are complete and defensible. 3) Your track record of delivering complex projects on schedule and within budget, ideally in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. 4) Why Antora's thermal battery technology and culture resonate with you, and how you can contribute to scaling their grid interconnection delivery.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Antora's thermal battery technology: understand how it works, its advantages over lithium-ion or other storage, and its grid interconnection requirements (e.g., inverter-based vs. synchronous).
- The specific RTO/ISO interconnection processes for MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and PJM: review their queue procedures, study requirements, and recent reforms (e.g., FERC Order 2023).
- Antora's recent projects, partnerships, and funding announcements to understand their growth trajectory and where this role fits in scaling deployment.
- Antora's company values and culture: read their website, blog, and any employee interviews to align your application with their emphasis on team, mission, humility, and joy.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- Walk us through a complex interconnection project you managed from early development through energization—what were the key challenges and how did you overcome them?
- How do you validate a statement of work from an Owner's Engineer or EPC firm to ensure it covers all necessary scope for interconnection and SCADA?
- Describe a time you identified a critical missing element in a data point list or interface control document. What was the impact and how did you resolve it?
- How do you manage budget and schedule across multiple projects in different RTOs/ISOs with varying requirements and timelines?
- Antora's thermal batteries are a novel technology. How would you approach interconnection and grid infrastructure delivery for a technology that may not have established precedents?
Common mistakes to avoid
- Focusing only on generic project management skills without demonstrating specific interconnection or grid infrastructure experience—this role requires technical fluency and RTO/ISO familiarity.
- Using vague language about budgets and schedules (e.g., 'managed large projects') instead of providing concrete numbers, project names, and outcomes.
- Ignoring Antora's culture and mission in your application—they explicitly seek people who put team and mission first, so a purely transactional cover letter will stand out negatively.
Deadline
No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
