Software Engineer - Platform, Mission Systems

• Maintain and augment the automation and services responsible for operating Planet's satellites, including managing cloud-based infrastructure, evaluating software technologies, and designing critical infrastructure.
• Contribute to a team that values open communication, collaboration, and self-learning to solve problems.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (Satellite Operations, Ground Operations, Pipeline, Product) to ensure the satellite constellation meets mission needs.

This role directly enables the operation of Planet's satellite fleet, which provides critical Earth observation data used for environmental monitoring, humanitarian response, and commercial applications, thereby helping to solve global challenges.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience building services with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and maintaining infrastructure with Ansible, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
• Proficiency in Python, relational databases (Postgres, MySQL), automated testing, code review, CI/CD (GitLab CI, Docker), and Linux.

US base salary range: $127,000 - $191,400 USD depending on location.
