How to Apply for Senior Product Designer, Growth - Contract (6-month)

at Haven Energy

🏢 About Haven Energy

Haven Energy is on a mission to modernize the electric grid by deploying residential and small commercial battery storage to create virtual power plants. They work with utilities and other partners to accelerate the adoption of solar and storage, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy future. Joining Haven means being part of a climate-focused startup with a tangible impact on the grid's stability.

About This Role

As a Senior Product Designer for Growth, you'll own the end-to-end design of the customer journey from first website visit to checkout, focusing on conversion and trust. You'll collaborate with product, engineering, and growth teams to iterate on designs that drive measurable impact, directly contributing to Haven's mission of scaling distributed energy resources.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve reviewing user analytics and A/B test results to identify friction points, then collaborating with product managers and engineers to sketch and prototype new designs for landing pages or checkout flows. You'd likely have meetings with the growth team to align on conversion goals, and spend focused time iterating on high-fidelity mockups and design specs, ensuring a seamless and trustworthy user experience.

🎯 Who Haven Energy Is Looking For

  • Experienced in designing for growth and conversion, with a portfolio showing successful A/B tests or iterative improvements on landing pages, onboarding flows, or e-commerce checkouts.
  • Strong systems thinker who can create cohesive design systems and handle complex interaction models, especially in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Skilled in visual communication and usability, with the ability to translate user research and data into intuitive, high-converting designs.
  • Comfortable working remotely and collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and growth teams, with excellent communication skills.

📝 Tips for Applying to Haven Energy

1

Tailor your portfolio to highlight growth-focused projects, specifically showing how your designs improved conversion rates or user engagement metrics.

2

In your resume, quantify your impact (e.g., 'Increased sign-up conversion by 20% through redesign of onboarding flow') to demonstrate your growth mindset.

3

Address the contract nature upfront: express your enthusiasm for a 6-month contract and your openness to converting to full-time, showing flexibility.

4

Research Haven's website and identify specific UX pain points or opportunities for improvement; mention these in your cover letter or portfolio.

5

Since it's remote, ensure your online presence (portfolio, LinkedIn) is polished and accessible, and be prepared to discuss your remote collaboration experience.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Emphasize your passion for clean energy and how your design skills can contribute to Haven's mission of grid modernization.", "Highlight your experience with growth design and conversion optimization, with concrete examples of how you've driven measurable results.", 'Show your ability to work autonomously in a remote setting and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.', 'Mention your excitement about the opportunity to potentially transition to full-time after the contract, demonstrating long-term interest.']
