Job description
We are looking for a passionate person who wants to create breakthroughs in untapped potential for significant climate impact - while working with and benefiting rural communities. We are a small team. This role is the mechanical engineering function, not a seat on a large bench — you will own the mechanical part of the hardware stack.
Job Description
Own the mechanical design of our flare and contribute to site design.
Primarily: sheet metal/welded/plumbing parts, and assembly design.
Perform site sizing/piping design based on farm size data and models.
Own mechanical manufacturing documentation (part and assembly drawings, documentation, procedures, etc.)
Work with the operations team to coordinate manufacturing of flares and custom assemblies.
Interface with electrical engineering team on integration of electrical subsystems.
Participate in design reviews
Occasional travel to farm sites.
Participate in 2-4 field installs per year to feed back improvements to the design.
Required
5+ years of mechanical design experience taking hardware from concept through manufacturing.
Understand basic combustor design for biogas or other low-BTU fuels.
Strong CAD skills. We use Fusion 360; experience in another package is fine if you’re willing to learn Fusion.
Fluids experience (e.g. modeling of pressure-flow characteristics of gasses in pipes)
Working knowledge of process instrumentation and measurement systems (flow, pressure, temperature sensors, 4-20mA sensors, etc.).
Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies and light fabrication. Field installs will require mechanical assembly skills.
Nice to have
Sheet metal design experience. Useful, but you can learn it here.
Knowledge of sulfidation and high-temperature corrosion.
Experience with hardware deployed in remote or unattended field environments.
If you have a sample drawing package or assembly documentation you can share, include it with your application.
Benefits: 15 days PTO, 1 floating holiday, 401(k) with company matching, health & dental premium reimbursements.
Our company:
Small, fun, fascinating, highly driven team: our teammates have worked in Antarctica, on space applications, and built underwater submarines, pandemic ventilators and nuclear reactors.
High-impact mission and large growth potential - supported by well known investors: Lower carbon, Climate Capital, Woven Ventures, Third Derivative, Grantham Foundation, Arpa-e, Mulago and some amazing angel investors
About Frost Methane
