How to apply for Senior Market Operations Analyst
Voltus
About Voltus
Voltus is a leading distributed energy resource (DER) platform that connects commercial and industrial loads, batteries, and other flexible assets to wholesale electricity markets, helping to balance the grid and accelerate the clean energy transition. Working at Voltus means directly combating climate change while solving complex, high-stakes operational problems in energy markets. The company's rapid expansion in MISO and PJM, including its Bring Your Own Capacity (BYOC) business, offers a dynamic environment where your work has immediate impact on grid reliability and affordability.
About the role
As a Senior Market Operations Analyst, you will own the operational success of Voltus's most strategic markets, ensuring flawless execution of availability, offers, interval data collection, performance calculations, and all enrollment and post-event deadlines. You will be the subject matter expert for your markets, moving fast to absorb new responsibilities from the Energy Markets team and supporting the scaling of BYOC across MISO and PJM. This role is critical to delivering reliable, affordable, and clean energy to ratepayers every day.
A typical day
You might start by reviewing market deadlines and ensuring all enrollment and post-event submissions are on track, then dive into analyzing interval data to verify performance calculations. Later, you could coordinate with the Energy Markets team to absorb new responsibilities, automate a recurring process, or troubleshoot an issue with a market operator. Throughout, you'll independently prioritize tasks to keep your markets running smoothly and reliably.
Who Voltus is looking for
- Proven ability to take total ownership of complex operational processes, from execution to automation, with a track record of meeting deadlines without material error.
- Strong first-principles thinker who rapidly becomes a subject matter expert in new market rules and operational requirements, without waiting for a playbook.
- Experience in energy market operations, particularly in MISO and/or PJM, including knowledge of demand response, capacity markets, and interval data systems.
- Self-directed and proactive, capable of generating priorities independently in a fast-paced, remote environment while coordinating across teams.
Tips for this application
- Highlight specific experience with MISO and PJM market operations, including any work with BYOC, demand response, or capacity programs.
- Quantify your operational impact—e.g., 'managed 500+ enrollments with 100% on-time submission' or 'reduced performance calculation errors by 30%'—to demonstrate ownership and accuracy.
- Showcase your ability to automate processes using tools like Python, SQL, or VBA, as Voltus values efficiency and scalability in market operations.
- Emphasize your comfort with remote work and cross-functional coordination, as this role requires independent prioritization and collaboration with Energy Markets and other teams.
- Demonstrate your passion for clean energy and grid flexibility by referencing Voltus's mission and how your work would contribute to combating climate change.
