How to apply for Senior Electrical Engineer
Fuse Energy
About Fuse Energy
Fuse Energy is a startup building a fully integrated energy company, from solar and battery projects to home installation and real-time power trading. It has raised over $200M from investors including Accel, Lakestar, and Lowercarbon, plus angels like Nico Rosberg. The company sells directly to consumers to cut out the middleman and lower costs.
About the role
This role is the electrical authority for grid connection, utility-scale solar PV, BESS, and data centre power infrastructure in the US. You will own electrical design from development through commissioning and handover. Strong HV experience is preferred because you will ensure generation, storage, and demand systems are designed, installed, tested, and energised to US requirements.
A typical day
A typical day might involve reviewing electrical designs for a utility-scale solar or BESS project, coordinating with grid operators on interconnection requirements, and answering technical questions from development or construction teams. You could also join a commissioning call for a data centre power system or update design standards for the portfolio. Because the role is remote, you would manage this through video calls, document reviews, and occasional site visits.
Who Fuse Energy is looking for
- Has substantial HV experience across grid connection works, utility-scale solar PV, and BESS projects in the US.
- Can act as the electrical SME and produce detailed electrical designs for solar, BESS, data centre, and grid infrastructure.
- Knows US electrical codes, interconnection requirements, and commissioning processes from development through handover.
- Is comfortable working remotely in a startup environment where first-principles thinking and ownership are expected.
Tips for this application
- Lead with your HV experience and name specific US projects where you owned electrical design or commissioning.
- Quantify your work: voltage levels, project MW/MWh sizes, number of grid connections, and whether you took projects from development to energisation.
- Show you understand Fuse Energy's model: integrated generation, storage, trading, AI, and direct-to-consumer sales. Connect your electrical work to that full stack.
- Address the remote US setup directly. Explain how you manage design reviews, site visits, and commissioning remotely without losing quality.
- Mention any data centre power infrastructure experience, since the role covers data centre projects alongside solar, BESS, and grid work.
What to cover in your cover letter
Your cover letter should focus on: 1) your HV and grid connection track record on US utility-scale projects, 2) a specific example of owning electrical design from development through commissioning and handover, 3) your ability to work as the electrical SME across solar, BESS, and data centre projects, and 4) why Fuse Energy's integrated model and $200M backing make this the right next step for you.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Read Fuse Energy's public materials on their integrated model: solar, batteries, hardware, grid infrastructure, trading, AI, and home installation.
- Research their funding history and investors (Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird, Collaborative Fund) to understand their growth stage and priorities.
- Look up US interconnection queue timelines and HV requirements in the regions where Fuse Energy is likely to develop projects.
- Check Fuse Energy's current projects or announcements to see if they have US solar, BESS, or data centre sites already in development.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- Walk through a US utility-scale solar or BESS project where you were the electrical authority from design through energisation.
- How do you approach grid connection works and interconnection studies for HV projects in the US?
- Describe a time you caught a design or commissioning issue that could have delayed a project. What did you do?
- How would you standardise electrical design across solar, BESS, and data centre projects in a startup with limited existing process?
- What US codes and standards do you apply most often, and how do you keep current with changes?
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying without demonstrating HV experience, since the job description states a strong preference for substantial HV work.
- Writing a generic cover letter that does not mention solar, BESS, data centre, or grid connection work in the US.
- Ignoring the remote nature of the role or failing to explain how you handle site-based commissioning and handover remotely.

No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
