at Energy Vault

🏢 About Energy Vault

Energy Vault (NYSE:NRGV) is a global energy storage and power infrastructure company that has pivoted to an Independent Power Producer (IPP) model since 2024, owning and operating critical energy assets worldwide. With headquarters in Westlake Village, CA and Lugano, Switzerland, it offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of innovative technology and project finance in the renewable energy sector. Employees join a mission-driven company focused on grid reliability and long-term energy security.

About This Role

As Senior Counsel – Project Finance & Commercial, you will lead legal work for Energy Vault's IPP projects, including project financing, offtake agreements, and commercial contracts. You'll support the development, construction, ownership, and operation of energy storage assets globally, directly impacting the company's growth and its ability to deliver resilient power solutions. This remote role requires close collaboration with finance, development, and executive teams.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve reviewing and negotiating financing documents for a new energy storage project, advising on a PPA with a utility client, and collaborating with the development team on regulatory compliance. You'll also coordinate with external counsel in different jurisdictions and provide legal updates to the executive team on project risks and milestones.

🎯 Who Energy Vault Is Looking For

  • A seasoned attorney with 8+ years of experience in project finance, preferably in renewable energy or infrastructure, including drafting and negotiating credit agreements, security documents, and intercreditor arrangements.
  • Deep understanding of commercial contracts such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, and operations & maintenance (O&M) agreements.
  • Experience with cross-border transactions and familiarity with regulatory frameworks in multiple jurisdictions, including the US, Europe, and Australia.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to work independently in a remote environment, with excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

📝 Tips for Applying to Energy Vault

1

Highlight specific project finance deals you've led, especially those involving energy storage, renewables, or IPP models, and quantify the deal size and impact.

2

Emphasize your experience with the full project lifecycle—from development and financing to construction and operations—as Energy Vault's IPP model requires legal support across all phases.

3

Tailor your resume to include keywords from the job description such as 'project finance,' 'commercial contracts,' 'IPP,' and 'energy storage' to pass applicant tracking systems.

4

In your cover letter, explicitly mention Energy Vault's recent strategic shift to an IPP model and how your background aligns with supporting owned assets.

5

If you have experience working remotely or with global teams, highlight it, as this role is remote and involves collaboration across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

In your cover letter, focus on: 1) Your track record in project finance within the energy sector, including specific examples of financing structures you've negotiated. 2) Your ability to handle commercial contracts like PPAs and EPC agreements, and how you've supported IPP or asset ownership models. 3) Your experience working across jurisdictions and with remote teams, demonstrating adaptability to Energy Vault's global operations. 4) Your enthusiasm for Energy Vault's mission and how your legal expertise can contribute to scaling their IPP portfolio.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid generic cover letters that don't mention Energy Vault's specific business model or the IPP strategy; candidates often fail to tailor their application to the company's unique context.
  • Avoid focusing only on legal theory without demonstrating practical deal experience; this role requires hands-on project finance and commercial contracting expertise.
  • Avoid ignoring the global aspect of the role; candidates who don't show awareness of cross-border legal issues may be seen as unprepared for Energy Vault's international operations.
