How to apply for Senior Associate

Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group

About Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group

NPAG is a fully remote executive search and consulting firm that has spent over 20 years helping mission-driven organizations build diverse, high-impact leadership teams. What sets them apart is their measurable commitment to equity—over 70% of placements since 2020 are BIPOC, two-thirds are women, and 92% remain in their roles two years post-hire. Employees enjoy a creative, family-friendly virtual culture with staff across the U.S. and beyond, working on searches that directly strengthen the nonprofit sector.

About the role

As a Senior Associate, you will manage the full lifecycle of executive searches for nonprofit clients, from research and candidate outreach to interview coordination and final placement. You will act as a steward of client relationships, ensuring searches are equitable, efficient, and aligned with each organization’s mission. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, virtual environment and wants to directly expand leadership diversity in the social sector.

A typical day

A typical day might start with a virtual check-in with your search lead, followed by candidate outreach and screening calls. You’ll update client trackers, schedule interviews, and draft candidate summaries, all while coordinating with team members across time zones. You’ll also spend time researching prospective candidates and preparing materials for client meetings, ensuring every search moves forward equitably and efficiently.

Who Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group is looking for

  • 3–5 years of project management experience, preferably in executive search, talent acquisition, or nonprofit consulting, with a track record of managing multiple complex searches simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, including experience sourcing and engaging candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent client organizations professionally and build trust with senior leaders.
  • Self-directed and tech-savvy, comfortable working remotely across time zones and using tools like Airtable, Slack, Zoom, and LinkedIn Recruiter to manage workflows.

Tips for this application

  • Highlight specific examples of searches or projects you’ve managed end-to-end, including the number of candidates engaged and outcomes achieved.

  • Research NPAG’s recent placements and mention one or two that resonate with you in your cover letter to show genuine interest.
  • Emphasize your ability to work independently in a virtual setting—describe how you stay organized and communicate proactively across time zones.
  • Connect your personal values to NPAG’s mission; they prioritize authentic alignment with equity and nonprofit leadership.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Submitting a generic cover letter that doesn’t mention NPAG’s specific mission or recent placements—they value authenticity and attention to detail.
  • Failing to demonstrate a concrete commitment to equity; avoid vague statements without examples of how you’ve advanced diversity in past roles.
  • Underestimating the virtual aspect: don’t imply you need an office or frequent in-person interaction, as NPAG is fully remote and values self-sufficiency.
