Role details
One-year AI policy advisory role supporting California's frontier AI governance and safety initiatives at the state technology department.
- Advise on AI policy, safety, governance, and adoption issues; synthesize stakeholder input and contribute to legislative reports.
- Connect CDT with AI governance experts across state agencies, academia, private sector, and community organizations.
- Requires graduate degree plus AI policy expertise, or multiple years specialized experience in frontier AI, safety, standards, and risk management.
- Preferred: 2–5 years technology experience, exceptional written and verbal communication, ability to translate complex AI concepts for non-technical audiences.
- One-year full-time placement starting September 2026; remote with occasional Sacramento travel; $120,000–$150,000 annually.
