How to apply for Sales Director - Mid Market
Navvis
About Navvis
NavVis builds mobile laser scanning hardware and software that turn physical spaces into digital twins. Its flagship products, the NavVis VLX and IVION, let customers capture indoor measurements faster than traditional methods. The US team has grown quickly over the past 24 months, so this is a chance to join a scaling operation rather than a settled one.
About the role
This is a Sales Director - Mid Market role managing a team of Account Executives who each run a US territory. You will spend 25-50% of your time traveling to observe, evaluate, and coach those AEs. The team sells the NavVis VLX and IVION to laser scanning professionals, so your job is to help AEs win more business and run better territories.
A typical day
A typical week might include pipeline reviews with your AEs, one-on-one coaching calls, and two to three days of travel to ride along with a rep in their territory. You would spend time watching demos of the NavVis VLX, debriefing with the AE afterward, and reporting territory progress to US sales leadership. The rest of the time is remote work on forecasting, hiring, and deal strategy.
Who Navvis is looking for
- Has managed a team of field-based Account Executives, ideally selling hardware, software, or technical solutions to SMB or mid-market customers.
- Understands laser scanning, reality capture, or adjacent industries such as construction, surveying, or AEC, or can learn the NavVis VLX and IVION product details quickly.
- Is willing and able to travel 25-50% across the US to ride along with AEs, watch their demos and meetings, and give direct coaching.
- Has a track record of hitting team quota through territory planning, pipeline review, and hands-on deal coaching, not just reporting.
Tips for this application
- Name the NavVis VLX and IVION in your resume or cover letter and show you know they are sold to laser scanning professionals, not general software buyers.
- Quantify your management results: team size, number of territories, quota attainment, and average deal size for SMB or mid-market sales.
- State your willingness to travel 25-50% explicitly, since this is a core requirement and remote candidates may be screened on it.
- Reference NavVis's US growth over the past 24 months and explain why you want to manage a scaling SMB team rather than a mature one.
- If you have any experience in AEC, surveying, construction tech, or reality capture, put it near the top of your resume because it maps directly to the customer base.
What to cover in your cover letter
Explain how you have coached field AEs to improve territory performance, with one concrete example. Show that you understand the NavVis VLX value proposition: capturing indoor measurements 10-20x faster than traditional methods. Connect that speed advantage to how customers win more business and become more profitable. State your travel availability and any direct experience with laser scanning or digital twin buyers.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Watch a NavVis VLX demo or read a product page to understand how wearable mobile laser scanning works and what IVION Core software does.
- Look up NavVis customers or case studies in AEC, surveying, or facility management to see who actually buys the VLX and IVION.
- Check the background of the current US sales leadership or recent NavVis US hires on LinkedIn to understand the team you would join.
- Compare NavVis to competitors like Leica, FARO, or Matterport so you can speak to differentiation in an interview.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- How you would structure ride-alongs and territory reviews for AEs spread across the US.
- Your approach to coaching an AE who is missing quota in a mid-market territory.
- What you know about the NavVis VLX and IVION and how you would position them against older scanning solutions.
- How you have managed a team through rapid growth, given NavVis's US expansion over the past 24 months.
- How you handle the split between base salary and OTE, and what you do when a rep is behind on pipeline.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying without mentioning the NavVis VLX or IVION, which signals you did not read past the job title.
- Focusing only on your personal sales numbers instead of team coaching, territory management, and AE development.
- Ignoring the 25-50% travel requirement or implying you want a fully desk-based remote role.
Deadline
No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
