How to Apply for Project Controls Manager

at CleanSpark

🏢 About CleanSpark

CleanSpark (Nasdaq: CLSK) is a market-leading data center developer and Bitcoin miner that controls over 1.8 GW of power, land, and data centers across the U.S., powered by globally competitive energy prices. They sit at the intersection of Bitcoin, energy, operational excellence, and capital stewardship, optimizing infrastructure to deliver superior shareholder returns. Working here means joining a fast-growing, innovative company that is shaping the future of compute and clean energy.

About This Role

As Project Controls Manager - Data Centers, you will establish and maintain owner-side controls to deliver CleanSpark's AI data center portfolio with reliable cost, schedule, change, risk, and performance information. You will develop consistent controls standards across projects, verify contractor data, and provide leadership with timely forecasts and early warnings of material variance. This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of high-impact data center projects that support CleanSpark's growth and operational excellence.

💡 A Day in the Life

You might start your day reviewing cost reports and schedule updates from contractors, identifying variances and updating forecasts. Later, you'd meet with the PMO and project managers to discuss risks and change orders, then prepare a summary for leadership. You could also spend time refining controls standards or evaluating new software to improve efficiency.

🎯 Who CleanSpark Is Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in project controls for large-scale data center, energy, or industrial construction projects, with a strong understanding of owner-side controls.
  • Expertise in cost engineering, scheduling (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project), change management, risk analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement project controls standards, processes, and tools across multiple projects.
  • Experience working in a PMO environment and collaborating with contractors, delivery partners, and internal stakeholders to validate and forecast project data.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to leadership and drive informed decision-making.

📝 Tips for Applying to CleanSpark

1

Highlight your experience with owner-side project controls on data center or similar capital projects, emphasizing cost, schedule, and risk management.

3

Show familiarity with CleanSpark's business model and the intersection of Bitcoin, energy, and data centers. Mention specific projects or initiatives from their website.

4

Demonstrate proficiency with project controls software (e.g., Primavera P6, EcoSys, SAP) and data analytics tools in your resume.

5

Tailor your cover letter to emphasize how you can establish controls standards and provide early warning of variances, aligning with the job description's focus.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Focusing only on contractor-side controls rather than owner-side; CleanSpark needs someone who can verify and challenge contractor data.
  • Being vague about project controls software proficiency; they expect hands-on experience with tools like Primavera P6 or EcoSys.
  • Ignoring the unique context of Bitcoin mining and energy; showing no interest in CleanSpark's core business model can be a turnoff.
