Machine Learning Engineer

Core responsibilities:

• Compose together tens to thousands of calls to language models to accomplish tasks that can't be accomplished with a single call
• Curate datasets for fine-tuning models, e.g., for training models to extract policy conclusions from papers
• Set up evaluation metrics that determine what changes to models or training setups qualify as improvements
• Scale up semantic search from a few thousand documents to 100k documents

This role advances AI capabilities to help researchers and policymakers extract insights from scientific literature more effectively, potentially accelerating evidence-based decision making.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Machine learning engineering experience
• Experience working with language models and AI systems
• Ability to curate datasets for model fine-tuning
• Experience setting up evaluation metrics for ML systems
• Experience with semantic search systems and scaling them
