How to apply for Machine Learning Engineer
AMP Robotics
About AMP Robotics
AMP Robotics applies AI-powered sortation to recycling infrastructure. It has hundreds of deployments across North America, Asia, and Europe. The company is headquartered in Louisville, Colorado, and was recognized as a top workplace by the Denver Post and BuiltIn Colorado.
About the role
This machine learning engineer role reports to the Engineering Manager of Perception. You will develop deep learning and other machine learning models and ship them to production. The work directly supports AMP's AI-powered sortation systems used in recycling facilities.
A typical day
You will spend time developing and testing deep learning models for perception tasks. You will work on shipping those models to production systems used in recycling facilities. You will coordinate remotely with engineers and report to the Engineering Manager of Perception.
Who AMP Robotics is looking for
- Has hands-on experience developing deep learning models, not just training them in notebooks.
- Has shipped machine learning models to production environments.
- Is comfortable working on perception problems, such as object detection or classification, relevant to robotic sortation.
- Can work remotely in the US and collaborate with engineering teams across multiple locations.
Tips for this application
- Highlight any production machine learning deployment experience in your resume, since the job description explicitly mentions shipping models to production.
- Mention specific deep learning frameworks and tools you have used, and describe the scale or constraints of the models you deployed.
- Reference AMP's actual deployments in North America, Asia, and Europe to show you understand the company's global footprint.
- If you have worked on perception, computer vision, or robotics-related machine learning, put that near the top of your resume.
- Address the remote nature of the role by noting your ability to work independently and communicate across time zones, as AMP has operations in multiple regions.
What to cover in your cover letter
Explain how you have taken deep learning models from development to production. Describe a specific perception or computer vision problem you solved. Show that you understand AMP's application of AI to recycling sortation. Mention your ability to work remotely while collaborating with teams across North America and Europe.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Read AMP Robotics' website, AMPSortation.com, to understand their sortation products and deployment scale.
- Look up AMP's recognition as North American Cleantech Company of the Year and what that says about their market position.
- Research the recycling industry's labor and recovery challenges that AMP's AI addresses.
- Find out what locations AMP has operations in (Atlanta, Cleveland, Portsmouth, Virginia, Europe) to understand the team's distribution.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- How you have shipped a deep learning model to production and what challenges you faced.
- Your experience with perception tasks such as object detection, segmentation, or classification.
- How you would handle model performance in a real-time sorting environment with varying waste streams.
- Your familiarity with AMP's product and how AI sortation changes recycling economics.
- How you work remotely with engineering teams distributed across multiple locations.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Focusing only on model accuracy without mentioning deployment, latency, or production constraints.
- Ignoring the recycling and waste sortation context and treating this as a generic machine learning role.
- Applying without any evidence of remote work experience or cross-time-zone collaboration.
Deadline
No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
