About the role
As a Lead Field Service Technician III – Solar, you will be the technical authority in the field, leading complex inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on solar sites around St. Louis. You will own your sites, shape how work gets done, and mentor other technicians. This role is field-based and requires living in the St. Louis region. There is a defined pathway to Technician IV.
A typical day
You start from home and drive to solar sites in the St. Louis area, typically 30–90 minutes away. You lead inspections, troubleshoot electrical issues, perform repairs, and mentor other technicians. Most days end by 3pm or 4pm, with occasional overtime and rotational Saturday on-call.
Who New Energy Equity (NEE) is looking for
- Master electrician with strong electrical judgment and troubleshooting skills.
- Willing to work outdoors on solar sites in the St. Louis area and drive from home to job sites.
- Comfortable with a Monday–Friday schedule, 7am–3pm or 8am–4pm, with rotational Saturday on-call (8am–12pm) and occasional overtime.
- No prior solar experience required; willing to learn photovoltaics on the job and mentor others.
Tips for this application
- State clearly in your resume or cover letter that you live in the St. Louis region or are actively relocating there before your start date.

- Emphasize your ability to work outdoors and travel within a 30–90 minute territory, with under 10% overnight travel.
- Mention your willingness to work rotational Saturday on-call and overtime as needed.
- Avoid any language suggesting you want a remote or work-from-home role; this job is strictly field-based.
What to cover in your cover letter
['Your master electrician license and how you apply electrical judgment in the field.', 'Your location in or relocation to St. Louis and ability to drive to job sites daily.', 'Any experience leading teams or mentoring technicians, even if not in solar.', 'Your interest in learning solar photovoltaics and growing into a Technician IV role.']

- How you manage your schedule with a rotational Saturday on-call and overtime.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying if you do not live in or plan to relocate to St. Louis; the posting explicitly says out-of-area candidates cannot be considered.
- Assuming this is a remote or work-from-home job; it is field-based and requires daily travel to sites.
- Downplaying your master electrician license or electrical experience; that is the core requirement they cannot teach quickly.
