How to apply for (Junior) SEO & AI Marketing Manager (m/w/d)

1KOMMA5°

About 1KOMMA5°

1KOMMA5° is a fast-growing climate tech company founded in 2021 that makes buildings CO2-neutral through photovoltaics, heat pumps, and charging infrastructure. With over 65 locations and 1,500 employees across Europe and Australia, it combines hardware installation with an intelligent energy management platform (Heartbeat) and a dynamic electricity tariff (Dynamic Pulse). Working here means directly accelerating the decentralized energy transition while scaling a mission-driven, entrepreneurial business.

About the role

As a (Junior) SEO & AI Marketing Manager, you will own organic search strategy and leverage AI tools to scale content production, keyword research, and on-page optimization for 1KOMMA5°'s clean energy solutions. You will help drive qualified traffic to their solar, heat pump, and charging offerings, directly supporting customer acquisition across multiple markets. This role sits at the intersection of technical SEO, AI-driven content, and renewable energy marketing.

A typical day

You might start your day reviewing keyword rankings and traffic data in Google Search Console, then use AI tools to draft optimized content for a new blog post on heat pump efficiency. Later, you'll collaborate with the marketing team to align SEO efforts with upcoming campaigns, and maybe run a technical audit to fix crawl errors. Expect a mix of analytical work, creative content optimization, and cross-functional meetings in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Who 1KOMMA5° is looking for

  • 1–3 years of hands-on SEO experience, including keyword research, on-page optimization, and technical audits (e.g., using Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console).
  • Familiarity with AI marketing tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Jasper, Surfer SEO) and ability to integrate them into content workflows without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong analytical skills to track rankings, traffic, and conversions, with a test-and-learn mindset.
  • Passion for sustainability and interest in renewable energy, photovoltaics, or heat pumps; German language skills are a plus but not required for the US remote role.

Tips for this application

  • Highlight any SEO projects where you improved organic traffic or rankings for a product or service—quantify results (e.g., 'increased organic leads by 30% in 6 months').
  • Show familiarity with AI content tools by describing a specific workflow you've used (e.g., using ChatGPT for outline generation, then optimizing with Surfer SEO).
  • Mention 1KOMMA5°'s products (Heartbeat, Dynamic Pulse) in your application to demonstrate you've researched their unique energy ecosystem.
  • If you have experience in a startup or fast-paced environment, emphasize your ability to adapt and wear multiple hats, as 1KOMMA5° is scaling rapidly.
  • Include a portfolio or examples of SEO content you've written or optimized, especially if related to energy, sustainability, or technical topics.

What to cover in your cover letter

["Your hands-on SEO experience and how you've used AI to scale content while maintaining quality.", "Why you're excited about 1KOMMA5°'s mission to decarbonize buildings and how your skills can help grow their organic presence.", "Specific examples of how you've improved search rankings or driven traffic for a product or service, ideally in a related industry.", 'Your ability to work remotely and collaborate with cross-functional teams (marketing, product, engineering) in a fast-paced environment.']

Research before applying

  • Explore 1KOMMA5°'s website, especially their product pages for Heartbeat and Dynamic Pulse, to understand their value proposition and target audience.
  • Read recent news or press releases about 1KOMMA5°'s expansion, funding, or partnerships to understand their growth trajectory and market position.
  • Analyze their current organic search presence: which keywords they rank for, what content they produce, and where there might be gaps or opportunities.
  • Learn about the German energy market and regulations (e.g., EEG, renewable energy incentives) since the company is headquartered in Germany, even if the role is US-based.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • How would you approach SEO for a new market where 1KOMMA5° is launching its solar and heat pump solutions?
  • Walk us through your process for using AI to generate and optimize content at scale without compromising SEO best practices.
  • Describe a time you identified and fixed a technical SEO issue that significantly impacted organic performance.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Submitting a generic cover letter that doesn't mention 1KOMMA5°'s specific products or mission—they want to see genuine interest in clean energy.
  • Overemphasizing AI tools without demonstrating SEO fundamentals; they need someone who understands search intent, not just prompt engineering.
  • Ignoring the junior nature of the role: avoid claiming to be a senior strategist if you lack the experience; instead, highlight your eagerness to learn and grow.

Deadline

No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
