Associate General Counsel, Nonprofit Compliance

• Oversee and advance organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations for 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, including leading the internal assessment program and managing federal/state registration and reporting obligations.
• Serve as an expert on nonprofit legal and regulatory requirements, providing advice on charitability, lobbying, advocacy, and campaign compliance matters.
• Lead and develop the legal compliance team, setting priorities and ensuring effective risk mitigation systems.

This role ensures Tides' legal and regulatory compliance, enabling the organization to focus on advancing social justice and shifting power to historically marginalized communities.

• Juris Doctor and active California law license or registered in-house counsel required.
• 8+ years of experience advising nonprofit tax-exempt organizations, with at least 3 years supervising compliance teams.
• Deep expertise in 501(c)(3) laws, lobbying regulations, and campaign finance rules.
• Experience designing and overseeing compliance programs and systems for nonprofits.
