How to Apply for New Media Manager, Social and Community Growth

at Solana Foundation

🏢 About Solana Foundation

The Solana Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to the adoption, decentralization, and security of the Solana network, one of the fastest and most scalable blockchains. Working here means being at the forefront of a high-performance ecosystem that aims to enable permissionless, user-owned data and value transfer globally. The marketing and communications team is deliberately lean, fast, and close to the work, offering a unique opportunity to shape the narrative of a leading blockchain.

About This Role

As the New Media Manager for Social and Community Growth, you will build Solana's presence beyond X (Twitter) on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, creating franchises that engage younger developers, non-US users, and those new to onchain finance. This is a hands-on maker role: you'll write, shoot, produce, post, and analyze content to grow Solana's audience. Your work will directly impact how the next generation of users perceives and engages with Solana.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve brainstorming content ideas with the team, scripting and shooting a short video for TikTok, editing it, and scheduling posts across platforms. You'll also analyze performance metrics to refine strategy, engage with community comments, and collaborate with developers or founders to source stories. Expect to be both creative and analytical, with a focus on rapid iteration and learning.

🎯 Who Solana Foundation Is Looking For

  • Proven experience creating and scaling content on new media platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram) for a tech or crypto brand, with a portfolio of successful campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of blockchain technology and the Solana ecosystem, or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex technical topics and translate them into engaging content.
  • A self-starter who thrives in a lean, fast-paced environment and can independently manage the end-to-end content creation process from ideation to posting and analytics.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format for different platforms and audiences, from developers to crypto-native users.

📝 Tips for Applying to Solana Foundation

1

Showcase your content creation skills by including a portfolio of your work (videos, social posts, campaigns) that demonstrates your ability to grow audiences on new media platforms.

2

Demonstrate your knowledge of Solana and its ecosystem in your application—mention specific projects, trends, or community initiatives that you find compelling and explain how you would highlight them.

3

Highlight any experience you have with onchain finance or DeFi, as the role involves reaching users touching onchain finance for the first time.

4

Emphasize your ability to work remotely and independently, as the role is remote (US) and the team is lean and fast-paced.

5

Tailor your resume and cover letter to show you understand the difference between X (Twitter) and new media platforms, and how you would adapt Solana's voice accordingly.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your specific experience building audiences on YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram, with metrics to show success.', "Your understanding of Solana's unique value proposition and how you would translate it into content that resonates with younger developers and international users.", "Your ability to be a maker—writing, shooting, producing, and analyzing content—and examples of how you've done this in previous roles.", 'Your passion for decentralization and the Solana ecosystem, and why you want to work for a non-profit foundation rather than a traditional company.']

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • Study Solana's existing social media presence, especially on X (Twitter), and identify opportunities for expansion to new platforms.
  • Explore the Solana ecosystem—key projects, developers, and community initiatives—to understand what stories are worth telling.
  • Research competitors like Ethereum and other L1 blockchains to see how they use new media platforms and what Solana can do differently.
  • Understand the Solana Foundation's mission and values, and be prepared to discuss how your work would align with them.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you approach building Solana's presence on a specific new media platform (e.g., TikTok) from scratch? What types of content would you create?
2 Can you walk us through a successful content campaign you led on a new media platform? What were the goals, strategy, and results?
3 How do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and algorithm changes on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram?
4 How would you measure the success of Solana's new media efforts beyond vanity metrics like followers and views?
5 Describe a time you had to quickly learn a complex technical topic to create content. How did you approach it?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Focusing only on X (Twitter) experience without demonstrating ability to create for video-first platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
  • Being too generic in your application—failing to show specific knowledge of Solana or the crypto ecosystem.
  • Presenting yourself as a strategist rather than a hands-on maker; this role requires someone who can execute, not just plan.
