How to apply for Infrastructure Development Lead - Australia

Fuse Energy

About Fuse Energy

Fuse Energy is a startup building a fully integrated energy company. It develops its own solar, batteries, grid infrastructure, and home energy products, then sells directly to consumers. It has raised over $200M from investors like Accel, Balderton, and Lakestar. This is a chance to join early in Australia and help build the project pipeline from scratch.

About the role

This role is the first Australian infrastructure development hire. You will originate Ready-to-Build solar and BESS projects by sourcing deals from developers, landowners, and industry networks. You will also lead technical, grid, and planning work to get those deals over the line. There is no playbook, so you will own the process and move fast.

A typical day

You might spend the morning on calls with developers or landowners about potential Ready-to-Build solar or BESS sites. In the afternoon, you could review grid connection studies or planning documents for a deal in progress. Some days you will travel to sites or meet industry contacts. The role is remote, but you will work closely with the team to move deals forward.

Who Fuse Energy is looking for

  • Has direct experience originating or developing solar and BESS projects in Australia, including Ready-to-Build acquisitions.
  • Knows the Australian grid connection, planning, and land access processes well enough to lead technical and regulatory work.
  • Has a network of developers, landowners, and industry contacts in the Australian renewable energy sector.
  • Is high agency, comfortable with ambiguity, and can find and close deals without a playbook.

Tips for this application

  • Lead with specific Australian solar or BESS projects you have originated or developed. Include capacity, location, and outcome.
  • Name the developers, landowners, or networks you have worked with in Australia. Concrete names show you have the network this role needs.
  • Show you can handle technical, grid, and planning work. Give one example where you took a project through those steps.
  • Explain why you want to join an early-stage startup with no playbook. Fuse Energy is not a large utility with established processes.
  • Mention that you are based in Australia and can work remotely. The role is remote but focused on Australian projects.

What to cover in your cover letter

Focus on your track record of sourcing and closing Ready-to-Build solar and BESS deals in Australia. Highlight your ability to lead grid, planning, and technical work. Show you have a relevant Australian network. Explain why you want to build a pipeline from scratch at a startup like Fuse Energy.

Draft a cover letter

Research before applying

  • Read Fuse Energy's website and any public materials on their integrated energy model. Understand how they develop, build, and sell energy directly.
  • Look up the investors listed (Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird, Collaborative Fund) to understand the company's stage and backing.
  • Research the Australian solar and BESS market, including recent Ready-to-Build transactions and grid connection challenges.
  • Check Fuse Energy's public announcements or news for any Australian projects or hiring plans.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • Walk through a Ready-to-Build solar or BESS project you originated. How did you find it, and what did you do to close it?
  • How do you assess grid connection risk for a solar or BESS project in Australia?
  • What is your process for sourcing deals from developers and landowners? Give an example.
  • How would you build Fuse Energy's Australian project pipeline from zero?
  • Describe a time you moved fast on a deal with incomplete information. What happened?
Practise interview questions

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying without showing any Australian solar or BESS project experience. This role requires direct experience in that market.
  • Focusing only on greenfield development. The role is mainly about acquiring Ready-to-Build projects, with selective greenfield work.
  • Writing a generic cover letter that does not name specific projects, developers, or networks. This role needs proof of your Australian network and deal history.

Deadline

No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
