Independent UN Human Rights Council Experts, with Extensive Professional Experience in Human Rights

• Monitor, report, and advise on human rights from a thematic or country-specific perspective as an independent expert.
• Conduct country missions, draft reports, and engage with stakeholders to address human rights violations.
• Participate in Working Group and Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva, and respond to mandate requirements.

These independent experts help uphold international human rights standards by investigating violations, advising states, and reporting to the Human Rights Council, thereby contributing to global accountability and justice.

• Extensive recognized professional experience and expertise in human rights, with emphasis on the specific mandate area.
• Availability to dedicate 4-6 months per year to the mandate, including travel and sessions in Geneva.
• For Working Group vacancies, must be a national of the specified regional group (e.g., African States, Latin American and Caribbean States, Asia-Pacific States).

This is an unpaid volunteer position. Mandate holders receive travel expenses and daily subsistence allowance for official missions, but no salary or other financial compensation.

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) supports the Human Rights Council's special procedures, which are independent human rights experts with mandates to report and advise on human rights from thematic or country-specific perspectives.
