How to apply for Head of Global Hyperscale Partnerships - USA based
Smardt Chiller Group
About Smardt Chiller Group
Smardt makes oil-free centrifugal chillers that cut HVAC energy use by 50%. It has manufacturing in the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia, and over 900 employees. This role lets you sell high-efficiency cooling into the fast-growing hyperscale data centre market.
About the role
You will build and run Smardt's commercial strategy for global hyperscale data centre operators, neocloud providers, colocation companies, and technology platform companies. You will get Smardt approved as a vendor and its products specified, find major data centre opportunities, and position its cooling technology for AI and high-density computing. This is a market-creation role, not account management.
A typical day
You might spend the morning on a call with a hyperscaler's engineering team about a reference architecture, then work with Smardt's product team on approval documentation. Afternoon could include a partner call with a data centre engineering firm and updating your pipeline of major opportunities. Ask in the interview how the role splits between customer meetings, internal coordination, and travel.
Who Smardt Chiller Group is looking for
- Senior commercial leader with a track record of selling into hyperscale data centre operators or large colocation companies.
- Experience getting approved-vendor status and specified-product status with large technology buyers.
- Understands how hyperscalers evaluate cooling technologies, build reference architectures, and approve suppliers.
- Can build executive relationships and work with engineering partners across global markets.
Tips for this application
- Name specific hyperscalers, neocloud providers, or colocation companies you have sold to or partnered with, and describe your role in getting approved-vendor or specified-product status.
- Explain how you have positioned cooling or thermal management technology for AI or high-density computing, since that is the core market for this role.
- Show that you understand Smardt's oil-free centrifugal chiller technology and its 50% HVAC energy reduction claim, and connect it to data centre efficiency goals.
- Since the role is remote and global, state your location in the USA and your willingness to travel to data centre hubs and Smardt's manufacturing sites in the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia.
- Use your cover letter to describe a market-creation win: a new customer segment or product category you opened from scratch, with numbers if possible.
What to cover in your cover letter
['Your direct experience selling to hyperscale data centre operators, neocloud providers, or colocation companies.', 'A concrete example of getting a vendor approved or a product specified with a large technology buyer.', "Your understanding of how AI and high-density computing change cooling requirements and how Smardt's oil-free chillers fit.", 'Your plan for the first 12 months: which accounts to target, which engineering partners to engage, and how you would pursue approved-vendor status.']
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Smardt's product line: oil-free centrifugal chillers, thermal management solutions, and the specific efficiency claims it makes.
- The company's manufacturing locations and capacity in the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia, since global delivery matters for hyperscale customers.
- Recent public announcements or projects from hyperscalers, neocloud providers, and colocation companies about AI data centre cooling and energy use.
- How hyperscalers structure vendor approval and specified-product lists, and who the main engineering partners are in data centre cooling.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- How you would build Smardt's hyperscale commercial strategy from the current position, including target accounts and partner types.
- A detailed walkthrough of a past deal where you got approved-vendor or specified-product status with a hyperscaler or large colocation company.
- How hyperscalers evaluate cooling technologies and what evidence Smardt needs to provide to pass their approval processes.
- How you would position oil-free centrifugal chillers against competing cooling solutions for AI and high-density computing.
- How you would work with Smardt's engineering and manufacturing teams across the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia to support global accounts.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying with generic sales achievements that do not name specific hyperscale, neocloud, or colocation customers.
- Treating this as a standard account management role instead of a market-creation and strategic business development role.
- Ignoring the technical side: not showing any understanding of chiller technology, cooling efficiency, or AI data centre thermal requirements.
Deadline
No deadline is listed. Roles without a deadline usually close once the employer has enough candidates, so apply soon if you are interested.
