How to apply for Founding Operations & Growth Specialist
PROJECT EDQUITY
About PROJECT EDQUITY
PROJECT EDQUITY is a founder-led portfolio of purpose-driven businesses, brands, and client engagements, including Sakura Wellness Solutions, Project Edquity, and the emerging Mimosa Moms lifestyle and media brand. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build the operational backbone of a growing portfolio with a social impact lens. The founder values proactive problem-solvers who can turn big ideas into repeatable systems and sustainable growth.
About the role
As the Founding Operations & Growth Specialist, you’ll be the operational backbone of the portfolio, managing projects, coordinating clients, overseeing financial administration, and driving business development. You’ll create systems that keep multiple brands and engagements organized, on time, and growing. This is a high-impact, part-time contract role (up to 20 hours/month) with the potential to expand into a larger long-term position as the portfolio scales.
A typical day
A typical day might involve checking in on project timelines for Sakura Wellness Solutions, updating a client on deliverables for Project Edquity, reconciling invoices, and researching new partnership opportunities for Mimosa Moms. You’ll spend time building or refining SOPs, tracking follow-ups in a CRM, and communicating with the founder to align priorities. Every day is varied, but the focus is always on keeping the portfolio organized, efficient, and growing.
Who PROJECT EDQUITY is looking for
- Proven experience in operations, project management, or growth roles, ideally in a startup, agency, or multi-brand environment.
- Highly proactive and self-directed—able to turn vague priorities into clear project plans and execute with minimal oversight.
- Strong client coordination and communication skills, with the ability to manage timelines, deliverables, and follow-ups across multiple stakeholders.
- Comfortable with financial administration (invoicing, tracking, basic bookkeeping) and business development (lead tracking, outreach, pipeline management).
- Systems thinker who enjoys building repeatable processes and tools (e.g., project management software, CRM, SOPs) to support sustainable growth.
Tips for this application
- Highlight any experience you have with multi-brand or portfolio operations—show you can juggle multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Use specific examples of systems you’ve built (e.g., project management workflows, client onboarding processes, financial trackers) and the results they delivered.
- Demonstrate familiarity with the wellness, education equity, or lifestyle/media spaces, as the portfolio spans these areas.
- Address the part-time, contract nature of the role head-on—explain why you’re excited about a ground-floor opportunity with growth potential.
- Mention any experience with tools like Asana, Trello, Notion, QuickBooks, or CRM platforms, as you’ll likely need to set up or optimize these.
- Show you understand the founder’s need for a ‘right-hand’ operator who can both execute and strategize—use language that reflects ownership and initiative.
What to cover in your cover letter
In your cover letter, focus on: (1) your ability to build operational systems from scratch for a growing portfolio, (2) concrete examples of how you’ve managed projects, clients, and finances in a remote, part-time capacity, (3) your excitement about supporting purpose-driven brands and a founder-led venture, and (4) your track record of turning ideas into action and driving measurable growth. Avoid generic statements—tie your experience directly to the portfolio’s needs.
Draft a cover letterResearch before applying
- Explore the founder’s background and any public information about Sakura Wellness Solutions, Project Edquity, and Mimosa Moms to understand the portfolio’s mission and audience.
- Look into the wellness, education equity, and lifestyle/media industries to identify common operational challenges and growth opportunities.
- Research common project management and CRM tools used by small portfolios (e.g., Notion, Airtable, HubSpot) and be ready to discuss how you’d implement them.
- Check if the founder has shared any content (LinkedIn posts, interviews, podcasts) about their vision for the portfolio—this will help you tailor your application.
Likely interview topics
Based on the job description, expect questions about:
- How would you prioritize and manage competing demands across multiple brands and client engagements in a 20-hour-per-month role?
- Describe a time you built an operational system from scratch. What tools did you use, and what was the outcome?
- How do you handle client coordination and communication when timelines slip or expectations need to be reset?
- What experience do you have with financial administration (invoicing, tracking expenses, basic bookkeeping) for a small business or portfolio?
- How would you approach business development for a portfolio of purpose-driven brands—what tactics would you use to identify and track new opportunities?
Common mistakes to avoid
- Applying with a generic resume or cover letter that doesn’t address the multi-brand, part-time, contract nature of the role.
- Focusing only on big-picture strategy without demonstrating hands-on execution and systems-building experience.
- Ignoring the financial administration and business development aspects—candidates who only talk about project management miss half the role.
- Failing to show enthusiasm for the ground-floor opportunity and the potential to grow with the portfolio.
