How to apply for Field Service Technician II – Solar
New Energy Equity (NEE)
About New Energy Equity (NEE)
New Energy Equity has financed and developed over 330MW of solar projects since 2013, and its Energy Support Services division keeps those systems running. The company operates across the full lifecycle of solar assets, so field technicians see the long-term results of the projects they maintain. This is a chance to work in the growing solar operations and maintenance sector with a company that has a decade of project history.
About the role
This is a field-based role in and around El Paso, Texas. You will work independently on advanced inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar and energy storage systems, including high-voltage environments. You will also guide junior technicians on site and have a defined path toward Technician III.
A typical day
You start from home and drive to solar sites in the El Paso area, typically within 30 to 90 minutes. On site, you perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on high-voltage systems, often working alone. You may guide a junior technician and handle paperwork or reports between jobs. Some weeks include a rotational Saturday morning on-call shift.
Who New Energy Equity (NEE) is looking for
- Two or more years of serious hands-on technical work in any industry, such as electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance.
- Strong electrical and diagnostic skills, including the ability to troubleshoot systems without direct supervision.
- Comfortable working outdoors on solar sites in the El Paso area and able to commute from home to job sites daily.
- Willing to work rotational Saturday on-call shifts and occasional overtime, with under 10% overnight travel.
- Solar experience is helpful but not required; the company values strong electrical fundamentals over solar-specific background.
Tips for this application
- Confirm you live within commuting distance of El Paso or are actively relocating there before you apply. The posting states that applications from candidates not in the area cannot be considered.
- Highlight any hands-on electrical or diagnostic work in your resume, even if it is not in solar. Use specific examples like voltage levels, equipment types, and troubleshooting outcomes.
- Note your willingness to work the schedule: Monday to Friday, 7am-3pm or 8am-4pm, with rotational Saturday on-call from 8am-12pm.
- If you have guided or mentored other technicians, mention it. The role includes guiding junior technicians on site.
- Avoid using a remote or work-from-home address on your application. The job is field-based and requires you to drive from your home to solar sites in the El Paso area.
What to cover in your cover letter
State clearly that you live in or are relocating to the El Paso area and can commute to job sites. Describe your hands-on electrical or diagnostic experience with concrete examples, such as the types of systems you have worked on and how you solved problems independently. Mention any experience leading or guiding other technicians. Confirm you are comfortable with the schedule, on-call rotation, and outdoor field work.

- Your experience working independently on electrical or mechanical systems, including a specific troubleshooting example.
- How you handle high-voltage safety and what precautions you take in the field.
- Your familiarity with solar or energy storage systems, if any, and how you would learn the specifics of NEE's equipment.
