Essentials Job Type: Full Time Permanent Start Date: September 14, 2026 - September 28, 2026 ideal, but flexible for the right candidate Application Deadline: September 28, 2026 Experience Level: Mid-Level Location: Remote US, some domestic travel required (10-15%), must have the ability to schedule meetings within standard business hours on US EST Reports To: Director of Operations Salary: $65-75k Benefits: Health insurance and Paid Time Off negotiable Application Link: https://forms.monday.com/forms/92ceb2c22fb321c8dafa9a7627f15ef3 About Slice Out Hunger Slice Out Hunger is a nationally recognized nonprofit that harnesses the power of pizza to fight food insecurity. America is obsessed with pizza; with over 77k pizzerias grossing upwards of $47 billion, our pizza enthusiasm is strong. Slice Out Hunger founder Scott Wiener tapped into pizza fever when he launched Scott's Pizza Tours in 2008 and later founded Slice Out Hunger as a parallel nonprofit organization in 2015. Food tours are fun ways to experience a city, but treating food as entertainment is a luxury that too many people cannot afford. Slice Out Hunger became a way to harness the momentum of our collective pizza obsession to effectively support those who have trouble meeting their own basic food needs. At its inception the organization was a vehicle for an annual pizza party fundraiser for hunger relief in New York City, but the pandemic acted as a catalyst that launched their work nationally. Though the scope has grown exponentially, Slice Out Hunger continues to operate on its founding principles: everybody is important, everybody deserves basic human services, & everybody loves pizza. Their current operations can be grouped into 3 main categories: Pie it Forward: Our primary ongoing program where we use donated funds to purchase pizza from independently-owned and operated shops across the country for hunger relief organizations like shelters and soup kitchens. Nearly all of our fundraising efforts fuel this initiative. Pizza Partners: We have a network of over 700 Pizza Partners in all 50 states plus DC & Puerto Rico. They pledge to donate and deliver pizza or fundraise for hunger relief initiatives each year and can fulfil those pledges through the programs that we facilitate or through any of their own independent efforts. With such a widespread network of support, we can make our donated dollars go further. We grow this network through a combination of participation in trade shows, industry networking, and social media campaigns. Fundraising Campaigns & Events: We currently host 3 live events (2 in NYC & 1 in Las Vegas) and an annual virtual campaign called Summer Slice-a-thon. 100% of the proceeds raised during these campaigns & events through ticket sales and direct donations is used to buy pizza for hunger relief organizations through Pie it Forward. Slice Out Hunger currently manages these operations successfully through a small (but mighty) team and are primed for a period of rapid growth. To that end, they are looking to bring in an additional member to the team to help expand their operational capacity. Role Overview In the immediate short-term (the next 12-18 months), the primary responsibility of this role will be direct fundraising to increase our operational capacity from approximately $250k to $450k. You will be responsible for building and implementing a fundraising portfolio which will consist of a combination of contributions from corporate donors and family foundations. For the right candidate, this role can shift and evolve in the longer term, allowing you the opportunity to put down roots as a specialist or build out and manage a development team. The consistent thread with this role will be for you to remain Slice Out Hunger’s strongest advocate. What You Bring to the Team If the phrase “proverbial shapeshifter” resonates with you, this is the opportunity you’re looking for. Pizza fans come in from walks of life and we’re looking for someone who is equally approachable and gregarious with everyone. You’ve been described as having the “gift of gab” and can strike up a conversation with anyone, leaving you both with a feeling of immediate kinship. You’re an effective and persuasive communicator. You have the ability to lay things out concisely and anticipate any questions or reservations someone might have. Since our work is so multifaceted, it is important to match specific relevant information to the appropriate audience. You know that at the core, successful fundraising is about people and the relationships you build with them. You’re an attentive listener, have an encyclopedic memory for personal details, and know that your attention to the small particulars that make all the difference in the world. You’ve been applying your fundraising talents in the nonprofit sector for a minimum of 6 years (specifically in a development or partnerships role) and feel proud of the positive impact you’ve had on people’s lives. You have a robust and proven history of prospecting and developing relationships with financial decision makers. For this role, we’re giving the strongest consideration to candidates who have formed strong connections with philanthropically-minded corporations and family foundations. You have a strong ability to pivot and shift your focus based on the needs of the organization. Our current needs are for operational support, but down the road, we may need to apply your talents towards programmatic fundraising, growing our network of Pizza Partners, or developing an effective individual donor strategy. We’re open to bringing additional specialists for the team for support in the future, but we’re hoping that you will be instrumental in advising on these decisions. A passion for pizza is a given, but we’re also looking for someone who believes just as passionately that food insecurity is a pervasive problem and that access to basic human necessities like food is a right not a privilege. Core Responsibilities Prospect, build, & maintain a major gifts pipeline to grow our operational capacity from approximately $250k to $450k within the first 18 months. Build and maintain donor relationships for this pipeline to meet and exceed fundraising goals. Track prospects in our project management platform (Monday) and donor records in our DRM (Bloomerang). Prior experience with project management and donor management systems required. Cultivate and deepen relationships with existing major contributors and provide insight on how we can best meet their partnership goals in a way that aligns with our mission. Follow up and maintain open relationships with previous major gift donors who may be looking for the right opportunity to jump back in. Identify grant opportunities that best align with our strategic goals and have the strongest probability of success and provide support documentation for these opportunities such as letters of inquiry, proposals, & budgets as the situation requires. Conduct exploratory calls with inbound partnership requests to determine if and how they might further our mission. Advise on expanding our peer-to-peer fundraising capacity through initiatives like Summer Slice-a-thon. Contribute to organizational fundraising strategies and strategic planning initiatives in partnership with the director of operations. Analyze our employer matched donations to identify strong candidates for corporate donations and foster those relationships Collaborate with the social media manager on effective communication strategies that support institutional fundraising goals. Develop reports and dashboards when appropriate to keep stakeholders informed on our development progress. Identify new opportunities for digital and traditional fundraising platforms. Travel as needed (10-15% of the year) to serve as our ambassador and advocate for opportunities that include but are not limited to: industry trade shows, benefits on our behalf, and in-person donor interactions. Visa Sponsorship Please note: At this time, Slice Out Hunger is not able to sponsor employment visas or hire candidates who require visa sponsorship to work in the United States. All candidates must have current, independent authorization to work in the US without present or future sponsorship. We will update our hiring pages if this status changes.
