How to apply for Development Director, Data Centers

Enlight Renewable Energy

About Enlight Renewable Energy

Clēnera is the U.S. subsidiary of Enlight Renewable Energy (Nasdaq: ENLT), a tier-one developer and independent power producer. It develops, finances, constructs, owns, and operates utility-scale solar and energy storage projects across the U.S., with over 1.9 GW of solar and 5.1 GWh of storage in operations or construction, and a development pipeline of 17.8 GW of solar and 51.1 GWh of storage across 23 states. S&P Global ranked Clēnera as a top ten U.S. owner of planned installations in the next five years.

About the role

The Development Director, Data Centers leads market positioning, commercial development, and strategic growth of the company’s data center business. This includes identifying new partnership opportunities, evaluating and prioritizing powered data center sites, structuring commercial deals, and engaging with industry leaders to expand the company’s presence in the responsible data center market. The role works cross-functionally to convert strategy into executed projects.

A typical day

A typical day may involve reviewing site data for powered land opportunities, meeting with potential data center partners or utilities, and working with internal teams on commercial structures. You might also spend time analyzing market trends, preparing internal recommendations, and advancing partnership discussions. The role is remote, so much of the work is done via video calls and shared documents.

Who Enlight Renewable Energy is looking for

  • Experience in data center development, including site selection, power procurement, and commercial deal structuring.
  • Background in renewable energy or utility-scale power development, with knowledge of solar and storage project pipelines.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and negotiate commercial agreements with data center operators, utilities, or large energy buyers.
  • Comfort working remotely and cross-functionally with teams in development, finance, and engineering.

Tips for this application

  • Highlight any experience with powered land or data center site evaluation, especially where power availability was a key constraint.
  • Quantify commercial deals you have structured or supported, including size, type (e.g., PPA, partnership, land option), and outcome.
  • Mention specific knowledge of U.S. power markets (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, MISO, WECC) and how they affect data center siting.
  • Show familiarity with Clēnera’s pipeline (17.8 GW solar, 51.1 GWh storage) and how data centers could integrate with those assets.
  • Explain how you have worked cross-functionally to move projects from strategy to execution, since the role requires converting strategy into deals.

What to cover in your cover letter

['Your direct experience in data center development or commercial deal-making for large power loads.', 'How you have identified and prioritized sites based on power availability, interconnection, and offtake potential.', 'Examples of partnerships or commercial structures you have built with data center operators, utilities, or energy buyers.', 'Why Clēnera’s existing solar and storage portfolio and pipeline make it well-positioned for data center growth.']

Draft a cover letter

Research before applying

  • Clēnera’s project pipeline by state and technology (solar vs. storage) to understand where data centers could be sited.
  • Enlight Renewable Energy’s public filings and recent announcements about data center or large load strategies.
  • S&P Global’s 2025 solar independent power producer rankings to see Clēnera’s position and competitors.
  • Recent data center growth trends and power procurement deals in the U.S., especially in states where Clēnera operates.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • How you would evaluate and prioritize a powered data center site within Clēnera’s 23-state footprint.
  • Your approach to structuring a commercial deal with a data center operator that balances risk and return.
  • How you would work with Clēnera’s development, finance, and engineering teams to convert a data center opportunity into a project.
  • Your understanding of the responsible data center market and what it means for siting and partnerships.
  • How you would position Clēnera against other renewable energy developers also pursuing data center deals.
Practise interview questions

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Focusing only on generic renewable energy development without addressing data center-specific commercial and siting challenges.
  • Claiming experience in data center deals without concrete examples of site evaluation, power procurement, or deal structuring.
  • Ignoring Clēnera’s existing solar and storage portfolio and how it connects to data center opportunities.
