Data Scientist - (Global)

Core responsibilities:

• Help develop KoBold's proprietary software exploration tools
• Find and curate geophysical, geochemical, geologic, and geographic data and integrate it into KoBold's proprietary data system
• Build models to make statistically valid predictions about the locations of compositional anomalies within the Earth's crust
• Create effective visualizations for evaluating model performance and enabling rapid interaction with the underlying data and key features
• Develop and apply data processing, statistical, and physics-based techniques to geoscientific data and use the results to guide targeting efforts and inform acquisition and exploration decisions
• Present to and collaborate with external partners and stakeholders

This role helps accelerate the discovery of critical battery metals needed for the transition to a low-carbon economy by building predictive models and data tools that improve exploration success rates and enable faster discovery of tier 1 mineral resources.

Required qualifications:

• Advanced degree in physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics
• Minimum 4 years post-PhD or 8 years post-MS experience, ideally as a data scientist or data engineer
• Extensive experience with Python's data science packages, collaborative software development (git), cloud computing, building predictive models, and geospatial analyses
• Broad skills in applied statistics, Bayesian inference, and substantial understanding of machine learning algorithms
• Experience leading technical teams to apply novel scientific approaches to core business problems
• Valid passport and willingness to travel to exploration sites worldwide

Compensation and benefits:

• US base salary range: $140,000 - $260,000
