How to Apply for Data Engineer I
at Greenlight America
🏢 About Greenlight America
Greenlight America is a mission-driven mobilization hub that empowers local communities to accelerate the transition to clean energy. Working here means contributing directly to a cause that has tangible environmental and social impact, while collaborating with a network of grassroots organizations across the country. If you want your data skills to drive real-world change, this is the place.
About This Role
As a Data Engineer I, you'll be the backbone of Greenlight's data infrastructure, ensuring that core data products are reliable and user-friendly. You'll own projects that turn raw data into actionable insights for campaign teams, directly supporting the clean energy movement. Your work will involve a mix of pipeline maintenance, UI/UX fixes, and data extraction, making every day varied and impactful.
💡 A Day in the Life
You might start your day by checking the status of data pipelines and addressing any alerts, then move on to writing SQL queries to extract data for a campaign team's urgent request. Afternoon could involve collaborating with a non-technical stakeholder to fix a UI issue in Retool, and you might end the day by documenting your work and updating project boards. It's a role that blends technical problem-solving with direct support for the clean energy movement.

Tailor your cover letter to emphasize your interest in clean energy and community mobilization; mention any volunteer work or projects related to environmental causes.
Showcase your ability to create technical documentation by linking to a sample or describing a past project where you documented data processes.

Generate Cover Letter →🔍 Research Before Applying
To stand out, make sure you've researched:
- → Visit Greenlight America's website and read about their current projects and campaigns to understand their focus and impact.
- → Look into the clean energy policy landscape and identify key challenges facing community-led projects, so you can speak to how your work helps overcome them.
- → Familiarize yourself with the tools mentioned in the job description (Retool, Vercel, dbt) and review their documentation to understand their use cases.
- → Check out any public data sources related to clean energy that Greenlight might use, such as government databases or nonprofit reports, to show your initiative.
💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
