How to apply for Data Center Development Lead - Australia
Fuse Energy
About Fuse Energy
Fuse Energy is an energy startup that has raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund. It is building a fully integrated energy company that develops its own solar, batteries and other generation projects, builds its own hardware, improves grid infrastructure, trades power in real time, uses AI across the business, and installs distributed energy in homes. The company aims to make energy abundant and affordable by selling directly to consumers and cutting out the middleman.
About the role
This role leads data centre projects across Australia from concept through to Ready-to-Build and energisation. You will own the technical and development workstreams that turn a site into a deliverable project. As AI drives unprecedented demand for power and data centre capacity, the bottleneck is no longer chips: it is energy, grid infrastructure and the ability to deliver new capacity at speed. This position is critical to Fuse Energy's ability to deliver new capacity quickly.
A typical day
A typical day might involve assessing a potential site's technical and planning feasibility, coordinating with grid operators on connection strategies, and working with internal teams on development workstreams. You could be reviewing power infrastructure requirements, engaging with stakeholders, or advancing a project toward Ready-to-Build status. Since the role is remote, you would collaborate with colleagues across different locations and manage your own schedule.

- Strong technical skills in assessing sites from technical, planning, power and infrastructure perspectives.
- Proven ability to develop grid connection and power strategies.
- Background in energy, infrastructure, or related fields with a track record of delivering projects in Australia.
Tips for this application
- Highlight any experience with data centre projects in Australia, especially those that reached Ready-to-Build or energisation.
- Emphasize your ability to assess sites from technical, planning, power and infrastructure perspectives, and give concrete examples.
- Show how you have developed grid connection and power strategies in previous roles.
- Mention your familiarity with the Australian energy market and grid infrastructure.
- Explain why you want to work at a startup that is building a fully integrated energy company, not just a data centre developer.
