How to apply for Customer Success Associate

Voltus

About Voltus

Voltus connects distributed energy resources to energy markets so commercial and industrial customers earn cash for flexible operations. The company runs demand response programs that are cost and risk-free for customers. It hires people who are bright, gritty, and good, and who want a cleaner energy future in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

About the role

As a Customer Success Associate, you manage onboarding from signed contract to live site, coordinating data collection, registrations, hardware installation, and testing across Sales, Field Engineering, Market Operations, and Dispatch Operations. Your goal is to get sites live in under 100 days. You remain the main customer contact after onboarding, supporting dispatch events, registrations, and seasonal updates for a regional sales team of about four Sales Directors.

A typical day

You might check in on several onboarding sites, chase data collection or registration steps with Sales and Market Operations, and coordinate hardware installation with Field Engineering. You could also join a call with a commercial or industrial customer to set expectations for testing, or help a Sales Director prepare for a dispatch event. The mix changes based on where each site sits in the under-100-day onboarding timeline.

Who Voltus is looking for

  • Bright, gritty, and good, with a clear interest in a cleaner energy future and comfort in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Strong project manager who can keep multiple workstreams moving across Sales, Field Engineering, Market Operations, and Dispatch Operations.
  • Comfortable as the main point of contact for commercial and industrial customers, setting expectations early about what participating in the program will ask of their site team.
  • Able to support dispatch events, registrations, and seasonal updates for a regional sales team of about four Sales Directors, with no quota pressure.

Tips for this application

  • Show you understand the onboarding goal: getting sites live in under 100 days by moving data collection, registrations, hardware installation, and testing across four internal teams.
  • Name the customer type explicitly: commercial and industrial sites that earn cash from demand response, and explain why you can set expectations with their site teams.
  • Reference the no-quota structure and the regional sales team of about four Sales Directors, and explain how you would support them after onboarding.
  • Use the company's own language: bright, gritty, and good; cost and risk-free demand response; fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • If you have project management or energy market experience, tie it to the specific handoffs between Sales, Field Engineering, Market Operations, and Dispatch Operations.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • How you would keep a site on track to go live in under 100 days when data collection, registrations, hardware installation, and testing involve four different teams.
  • A time you were the main customer contact and had to set expectations early about what a program would ask of their site team.
  • How you would handle a commercial and industrial customer who is slow to provide data or schedule hardware installation.
  • What you know about demand response and how Voltus helps customers earn cash from operational flexibility in energy markets.
  • How you would support dispatch events, registrations, and seasonal updates for a regional sales team of about four Sales Directors without owning a quota.
Practise interview questions

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating this as a generic customer success role and ignoring the specific onboarding workflow across Sales, Field Engineering, Market Operations, and Dispatch Operations.
  • Assuming the role owns the commercial relationship or renewals; Sales Directors own those, and this role has no quota.
  • Using vague language about climate or energy without showing you understand demand response and what commercial and industrial customers actually do to participate.
