How to apply for Customer Delivery Manager

Granular Energy

About Granular Energy

Granular Energy is a fast-growing climate tech startup building the software backbone for 24/7 clean energy trading, using hourly certificates to match green generation with consumption at scale. They work with leading power exchanges and grid operators across Europe and the US, and are well-funded after an oversubscribed round. This is a chance to join a mission-driven team solving one of the hardest problems in the energy transition.

About the role

As Customer Delivery Manager, you'll be a hands-on leader of the Technical Solutions/Customer Delivery team, sitting at the crossroads of Sales, Customer Success, and Product. You'll directly manage a team of five (with budget to hire more) while also getting involved in client-facing delivery work. Your impact will be ensuring that electricity companies and suppliers successfully implement Granular's platform, enabling them to scale hourly matching and accelerate the shift to 24/7 clean energy.

A typical day

You might start your day with a quick sync with your delivery team to prioritize client issues, then join a call with a utility client to discuss implementation progress. Later, you'll collaborate with Product on a feature request that emerged from a customer, and end the day reviewing hiring pipelines for new team members. Expect a mix of strategic planning, client interaction, and team coaching.

Who Granular Energy is looking for

  • Proven experience managing technical delivery or customer success teams in a B2B SaaS environment, ideally in energy, climate tech, or a related data-intensive domain.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple client implementations simultaneously, balancing technical details with commercial priorities.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Customer Success, and able to translate client needs into actionable product feedback.
  • Hands-on mindset: willing to dive into technical discussions, understand APIs/data flows, and lead by example rather than just delegating.

Tips for this application

  • Highlight any experience you have with energy markets, renewable energy certificates, or hourly matching—even if not directly in a SaaS context—because Granular operates at the intersection of energy and software.
  • Emphasize your ability to manage and grow a technical team: mention specific examples of hiring, mentoring, and scaling delivery processes.
  • Show familiarity with Granular's product domain by referencing concepts like 24/7 clean energy, hourly certificates, and portfolio management in your application.
  • Demonstrate cross-functional collaboration by providing examples of how you've worked with Sales and Product teams to improve customer outcomes.
  • Since the role is remote and the company is distributed, highlight your experience with remote team management and asynchronous communication tools.

What to cover in your cover letter

['Your passion for the energy transition and why 24/7 clean energy specifically excites you.', 'Concrete examples of leading technical delivery teams and managing complex client implementations from kickoff to success.', "How you've bridged the gap between technical and commercial teams, ensuring customer needs are met while driving product improvements.", 'Your approach to scaling a team: hiring, onboarding, and establishing processes that maintain high-quality delivery as the company grows.']

  • Explore Granular's website, especially their case studies or client testimonials, to learn about their platform and the types of companies they serve.

Likely interview topics

Based on the job description, expect questions about:

  • How would you structure a customer delivery team to support both European and US clients, considering different market regulations and grid operator partnerships?
  • Describe a time you had to manage a difficult client escalation. How did you handle it while keeping the team motivated?
  • What metrics would you use to track the success of customer delivery, and how would you balance speed of implementation with quality?
  • How would you collaborate with Product to prioritize feature requests from clients, especially when they conflict with the roadmap?
  • Given Granular's focus on hourly matching, how would you ensure your team understands the technical nuances of energy certificates and can explain them to clients?

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Focusing only on generic management skills without connecting them to the energy transition or SaaS delivery context.
  • Underestimating the technical aspect of the role: avoid implying you're purely a people manager who won't engage with product details.
  • Ignoring the startup environment: don't emphasize a preference for rigid processes or large corporate structures, as Granular values agility and hands-on contribution.
