COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

• Provide communications and media support for Black Lives Matter Grassroots, including tracking stories, campaigns, and initiatives.
• Coordinate with the Communications Strategist to field media requests, follow up on pitches, and maintain communications calendars.
• Create and update content for organizational websites and social media platforms, and write/proof press releases and media alerts.
• Support logistics for communications events, manage email accounts, and provide technical assistance for meetings and radio programs.

This role amplifies the voices of the Black liberation movement, ensuring effective communication of BLM Grassroots' mission and work to the public, media, and partners, thereby advancing racial justice and social change.

• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong technological skills including websites, docs, spreadsheets, online meeting platforms, copy and rudimentary video editing, and social media.
• Basic graphic design using platforms such as Canva.
• Deep understanding of Black radical tradition and commitment to racial and social justice.
