Tech Counsel (AI for Democracy Action Lab)

• Develop and advance legal strategies at the intersection of AI and democracy, including impact litigation and integrated advocacy projects.
• Build Protect Democracy's expertise and credibility on AI law and policy through research, writing, and public engagement.
• Collaborate with communications team to execute integrated advocacy campaigns.

This role safeguards democracy by shaping law and policy to constrain AI deployments that threaten democratic norms and institutions, ensuring technology serves the public interest.

• For senior counsel: at least 10 years of legal experience with expertise in AI and emerging technology law.
• For early to mid-career counsel: at least 4 years of legal experience with exposure to AI law or related fields.
• Bar membership in good standing in jurisdiction of residence.
• Exceptional analytical, writing, and presentation skills; ability to translate complex technical and legal questions for diverse audiences.

Starting salary range: $170,000–$193,000 (senior) or $138,400–$157,000 (early to mid-career), commensurate with experience. Remote position based in the US. Collaborative, nonpartisan environment with a growth mindset and commitment to diversity.
