How to Apply for State Policy & Advocacy Specialist

at FreeFrom

🏢 About FreeFrom

FreeFrom is a national organization dedicated to dismantling the nexus between gender-based violence and financial insecurity, founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles. They uniquely combine survivor-centered advocacy with innovative financial empowerment programs, making them a leader in creating systemic change. Working here means contributing to a mission that directly supports survivors of gender-based violence through policy, technology, and community building.

About This Role

As the State Policy & Advocacy Specialist, you will support the State Policy and Advocacy Manager in advancing FreeFrom's legislative agenda across multiple states. This role involves researching, drafting, and advocating for survivor-centered laws, building relationships with coalition partners, and tracking policy developments. Your work will directly impact the lives of survivors by shaping laws that address their financial security and safety.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve monitoring legislative developments in key states, drafting policy memos or testimony, and coordinating with coalition partners via virtual meetings. You'll also prepare materials for advocacy days, track bill progress, and contribute to strategic planning sessions with the policy team. Remote work allows for flexible hours, but you'll need to manage multiple deadlines and communicate regularly with your manager and external stakeholders.
